Not sure why this has a high rating
I ordered this book only because it had a pretty good rating, but I thought this book was weird and didn't enjoy it. At some point the rude cake is abducted from his bed through his bedroom window by a friendly cyclops and is worn as a hat. The cyclops has friends who compliment him on his hat while the rude cake keeps saying that he's not a hat. The cyclops eventually returns the cake to his bed. I asked my 6 year old what he learned from the story and he said "uh, to say please?" I was hoping this book talked more about having a positive attitude, but it didn't so I'm returning it. It's also a very short read.

This book is adorable! I am a baker and thought it would be a great gift for my niece. It teaches people of all ages about being nice and having good manners. The illustrations are wonderful and the side characters are fun to watch out for while reading the main text. I would recommend this book to anyone, especially those with young children!

which has just the right touch of absurdity to hit the sweet spot for young imaginations
Really lovely book by Mr. Watkins. My 7yo (on the autism spectrum) was mesmerized by the pictures and completely engaged by the story. The 7 and 9 year old both laughed at some of the illustrations and story, which has just the right touch of absurdity to hit the sweet spot for young imaginations. The story is simple and I think very relatable. It shows how the tables turn for the rude cakes who don't seem to understand how their rudeness affects those around them. It has a moral but isn't preachy.Good story to read before bedtime. Young readers can read it aloud. It's maybe a 5 minute read.I think the ideal age is probably 6 and younger but the artwork is super imaginative and funny, so I think just about anyone can enjoy the book.

Adorable book - cakes for hats - very creative
Let me just say that I love Amazon's "look inside" feature. My 4 year old son is really picky about his books - they have to be hardcover and they HAVE to have good graphics. I looked at this book and it made me laugh so I ordered it. My son loves this book - when I first got it he would make me ready 2 or 3 times a night (and sometimes during the day). Very cute and very funny - also recommend "Veggies with Wedgies" very very funny and also one of his faves!

... an elementary teacher and it has quickly become a favorite of my grandkids
I got this book on the recommendation of an elementary teacher and it has quickly become a favorite of my grandkids. It teaches a lesson in a cute and unique way...the kids especially love when I do the cake's comments in a bit of a snarky voice! I'm a retired high school English teacher and we read a lot at my house so I'm always looking for good titles. Buy this one!

Love it!
Our 3 year old grandson is really into cakes currently (for whatever reason - hey, who can blame him??) and let's face it, there aren't very many books out there featuring cakes. This is perfect for him and he loves to read it over and over. The illustrations are adorable and the story is silly and teaches a simple lesson; what more does any 3 year old want? He loves this book and the monsters are a great touch. Thank you Rowboat Watkins - simply silly and sweet!

Weird... Really Really Weird
This book is weird -- really really weird. My three year old has been on a tear about bedtime stories and why they must be read on the ipad -- So I've made a lot of children book purchases for the Kindle app here on Amazon recently -- this is one of those books that makes me feel a little weird about whether I'm getting fair reviews of a book on Amazon, it had a lot of 5 stars and I can't possibly give this book 5 stars, that would place it on the level with the greatest children's books of all times... and this isn't that kind of book -- but in the end, this isn't about me, this is about the toddler and whether or not she likes the book. But more about me.. and my needs....First, this book has a message to deliver -- I think that's clear by the title, but let me just summarize it the way I read it -- our story follows a rude baked good... a cake to be exact, the cake is rude to other baked goods and his/her/its parents... hence rude cake... fine-- bad cake, bad. Soooo, at some point, after bedtime for the baked good in question, he/ she/ it is abducted by a very pleasant cyclops -- and taken somewhere where the rude cake is shown off to the cyclop's friends, many pleasantries are exchanged regarding the rude cake, who they think is a hat. After some protest, from rude cake, the cyclops realizes they were wrong for abducting rude cake and pleasantly returns rude cake to his/her/its bed.Hmmmmmmmmmm?????? I get it... no wait ....I don't. The main message is clear, I get that -- how the author came up or even connected these strange characters to one another, I don't get it -- because THAT doesn't make ANY sense -- if my summary sounds crazy well ...there ya go-- Just my opinion, I'm 40 years old --BUT my three year old LOOOVVVVEEEEESSSSS this book.... say what? So I can't write it off as a waste of money, I didn't like it... I cringe when she points to it every night because it's so weird -- but the truth is the toddler loves it and in the end that's all that counts, I have no idea what's going on in that three year old mind that makes this book even decent, but LOVE??? -- Soooo, three stars from me-- 5 stars from my toddler -- that said, it's my Amazon account, so three stars it is... she can write her own review.

I do love the book
The 3 star rating is for some interesting reasons.First off, I do love the book. However, I have to mark down the stars because I want to be able to read it as a bedtime book to my toddler, but it is a mix of prose and comic book dialog. As a result, it is really hard to just sit down and read it aloud. This format for the verbage really limits its usefulness. If it was pure standard prose then it would definitely be a five star book.
