Review: Powerful amplifier - Perfect product.
Review: Ludicrous Speed - I recently replaced my Rotel RB-1090 with (2) Crown XLI2500's. I am DEFINITELY a "Home Audio" to "Pro Audio" convert! Everything that applies to the XLI2500 applies to the 3500's as well....... PLUS some benefits.....Please read my review here... then come back.... https://www.desertcart.com/gp/review/R1XNYNCQ20NP8B?ref_=glimp_1rv_cl if you read my review on the 2500's you might ask...why in the world would you upgrade?? TWO reasons...... FIRST REASON: On some hard hitting Jazz tracks that are very demanding.....while sipping on an adult beverage....and playing it at UNREAL levels...(about the 11:30) position on the volume knob.....ONE of the CLIP lights on ONE of the channels on ONE of the amps started to flicker. The sound never changed.....it remained crystal clear.....but....it showed me that to go any further (crazy) I needed to dial back the Amp's outputs just a "smidge"....or......turn off the "loudness" button on the pre-amp.......or take some low end out of the EQ. As we all serious listeners know....this is par for the course at "some level" and perfectly acceptable and no reflection on the Amp. Which brings me to the...... SECOND REASON: I was able to send the 2500's back and upgrade to the 3500's since I only had the priors for a week. I happen to like the Loudness button ON! It imparts a sonic "punch and sizzle" that goes missing when turned off. You can play with the controls all day long .....but it does not impart the PUNCH the loudness circuit does. I also like my settings just where they are. I do not want to have to "adjust settings" at extreme levels any more. I want the settings that I like to remain at ANY volume.......and be PERFECT. (is that asking too much) 3500 PLUS BENEFITS: I did not order the 3500's to begin with because I was afraid with 1000 watts plus.....there might be a "buzz" and I was also concerned about power consumption. There is ZERO buzz or noise. Also....at full rated power the Amps only consume 700 watts each! That's less than a hair dryer! The 3500's are a tad smoother than the 2500's. It was hard to believe at first....but the reason is because there is SO MUCH reserve power that it plays demanding passages like they were BUDDA! (butter) lol I played the same tracks anxiously to see what the capabilities of these monsters were. I can tell you PROBLEM SOLVED!! I went PAST the clip point (2500's) with the same settings at an UNREAL level that is absolutely crazy and everything stayed smooooth, crystal clear and zero clip lights. I never listen to music at this extreme level because I want to keep my hearing! But now I KNOW I have the ULTIMATE in Home Audio and that no matter what I throw at them my Amps are laughing at me because that is ALL I can take! Concerned about these 2 Monster Amps drawing too much amperage on a dedicated 20 amp circuit,,,,I pulled my electrical panel and placed my Amp Meter on the circuit to measure Amp draw. At about the 9:30 position on the volume dial.....with a bass heavy track....and the house shaking from extremely loud sound pressures....the amp draw was......are you ready for this.......between 1.83 and 3.4 amps!! WOW! That's 2 Amps! The Amps remain cool as a cucumber and act as if nothing is happening in the room! THAT is how I want my Amps to act! lol The power these monsters make is "ludicrous speed" !! (Reference to the movie Space Balls)! If you have seen this Movie you know what I am talking about! If you have not seen it.....you really should.....it will make you laugh and forget about this crazy world for a while:) (plus you will know what I am talking about)! You CANNOT go wrong with either the 2500 or 3500 series in a Home audio setting. I am sure the 3500 will handle even the most demanding Pro Audio demands as well. The amps are silent, crystal clear, have a big open sound stage that keeps opening the more power you apply, run very cool and consume very little power. They blow away Home Amps.....for a LOT LESS coin! So after all these years.....my "bucket list" of owning LUDICROUS SPEED power amplifiers is finally fulfilled;) If you desire an amplifier that is "yawning and reading the paper" while you are rocking the entire neighborhood......well my friends.....spend 550 bucks and put a Crown XLI3500 under your audio systems hood.......GT:)

## Questions & Answers

**Q: will these crown xli series amplifiers work well for home theater use or would the fan noise be to much**
A: I am using it in a home theater application. There is no fan noise at all. The Crown XLI series amplifiers are a great choice when considering a pro amp for home theater use. After finally getting one I wouldn't even think of getting anything else.

**Q: 4 - 100 watt speakers at 8ohms each. They are 360 watt peak each. Is this amp enough for these speakers. amp to speaker then spkr to speaker on ea ch.**
A: The output of the XLI 800 @ 8 ohms is 200 W per channel x 2 channels=400W. In my opinion this model is not the proper size for 4 100 watt speakers. Upgrading to the 1500, would be a better match.

**Q: Is it possible to power car subwoofers with this amp?**
A: Yes it is. I have a 2.1 stereo in my house. I've been powering a JBL W12 GTi MKII with my xli 3500 for years. Of course the amp is in my house and not in a car.

**Q: Why does my amp keep shutting off when I turn it on and all I have are two electra-voice 15" passive speakers with gain set about 40 percent?**
A: There are many variables that could be causing this but the bottom line is it's most likely a short somewhere in the system. Disconnect the speaker wires from the back of the amp and try turning it on. If it shuts off immediately the problem is somewhere in the amp. If it stays on there's a short and either the wires or the speakers or the speaker cabinets somewhere along that line

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ GREAT FOR SUBS BUT CHECK THE POWER CONNECTION
*by G***. on June 24, 2022*

OK so many have told me I'm imagining things so I decided to show the proof. My XLi3500 came with a 20 amp socket for the power cord. Luckily it also came with an unusual power cord hat has the 20 amp connecter on the amp end but a regular 15 amp (standard wall socket) plug on the wall end. I don't have 20 amp sockets in my house so I can't use my big aftermarket power cords. Pangea makes one for this but it's a few hundred bux. The amp doesn't have feet so I used the heavy duty rubber feet for washing machines, Amazon has several to choose from and they are every bit as good as expensive 'audiophile' feet. This amp has some hiss at the tweeter on full range speakers, it get loud without strain of course but it's not a hifi amp by any means. For big subs it is in command, it puts out tons of current to my two Dayton Ultimax 18s in the theater room. For loud movies it's too much power, I have the gains down below the 12 o'clock position and still turned my processor sub level down about 4db. The fan is inaudible with music playing, quieter than my AC vents when they are blowing. If you need a cost effective stereo amp go with the XLi2500 or XLS1502 / XLS2002, they all have more power than anyone will need for music. The lightweight XLS series sounds night and day better than the XLi series with music/movies and you can put five XLS amps in a room without tripping breakers as might happen with several big XLi amps. Some say the XLi series is a big step up when driving subs but keep in mind you can't bridge them on a 4 ohm sub. They will of course power a pair of 4 ohm subs no problem. I had a pair of XLS2502 amps each one bridged on a single Ultimax 18 and I can't say the XLi3500 powering these two subs in stereo is night and day better, time will tell. I am a big Crown fan but the QSC GX5 sounds better for full range music and they now have very quiet fans compared to about 8 years back.
