Have two, One year in, Best black lasers ever owned!
5/6/15, 1 year report: 29k pages on one, 10k pages on the other and they're still the finest black laser printers of the 8 or so others (all Brothers) I've owned. Both printers are connected to the network via Wi-Fi and are available to all workstations. They can be moved if needed to any high-activity special-project location, needing only a place to plug into power. NOTE that connection is by only ONE of the several available interfaces at a time. That works fine for our office... all Wi-Fi all the time, but could be a problem for some. They present as AirPrint printers when accessed over the network from our Mac-books and IPads, but I MIGHT be using 3rd party apps to help with that. I've been using toner refill kits, which have been performing perfectly, though if you're not really careful, can get messy. If you try this, be sure to get extra replacement caps. You have to destroy the old ones to get them out, and getting the new ones in are no picnic either. I've zero problems with dimming lights (house only 20 years old) or tripped breakers. I expect some of the problems others have reported might be caused by overloaded circuits and varying voltages.---------------2 week report: I was concerned about the reported high-current draw of these printers, but took a chance. Both are connected to circuits that have computers and other printers, and have been in operation for about 2 weeks, networked with multiple users printing to each. Neither printer has given any hint of excessive power draw.... no tripped breakers or even dimming of lights. They promise to have lower operating costs than my other Brother printers (all lasers). The users are delighted with the full-ream paper tray (even when using 22lb paper from Costco), crisp print-outs, quick response and good speed. So far, I'm very pleased. I'll update the review if something changes.-------2 month report: No problems whatsoever. Starter toners lasted ~2500 copies. The replacement toners promise 12k copies for less than $100. Print is crisp, double-side works perfectly, it's fast, no breakers trips or light dimming on either of the two printers, consumables are less expensive than any other of my printers. I even re-filled the starter toners (requires parts that starter toners are missing) and they're performing perfectly and promise ~8k copies for ~$20. The users love them. What's not to like.I'm considering NOT buying any more drums & toners for my other printers and replacing these with HL6180DW's when their stock of drums & toners run out. It would be really nice to be able to stock low-cost consumables, for only one model of printer.

Toss the manual
The manual for wireless setup makes the setup process more difficult than it is. Toss it.If you've ever set up a wireless device, including printers, it's a simple matter of finding the network and connecting it with the device and installing the print driver. Which I did successfully on a Windows PC, a Mac and a Mac running Parallels. I also was able to print wirelessly from my iPhone and iPad. The setup CD does not have a print driver for Mavericks on the Mac. Somehow, the driver got downloaded anyway when I installed the printer. But ....Startup when printing wirelessly is somewhat slow. After a slow start, the output is blazing. Never had a printer this fast. When the printing starts the house lights dim. The printer uses nearly 7 volts by my measure, so make sure your room is wired accordingly, especially if you have PCs running, too. My electrician recommended installing a dedicated 20-amp line for my computer room. I have two other printers, a Mac and a PC running at the same time. None of them cause the lights to dim when they start up.Print quality is very good. Duplexing -- printing on both sides of the paper -- is fast.I'd give this printer 5 stars if it weren't for the fact that I wasted three hours following the steps in the manual. Once I realized that I was wasting my time, setup took me 10 minutes.I also downgraded the star rating because of the power jolt (and light dimming) when the printer starts up. Brother, can you spare a volt?

An excellent printer (...I only wish there were more 3rd party high capacity cartridges available from dependable sellers)
This has been an outstanding printer for us. We bought two, one for home, one for the office, and we have been using them for quite some time at this point (roughly two years later). They get heavy usage with two professors using them.PROS:- Blazingly fast- Dependable (almost no paper jams or issues)- High capacity toner cartridges available (which I consider to be essential; not only are they less expensive, but it minimizes the number of times I have to think about buying & changing toner)- Duplex is essential. For the life of my, I do not know why any printers are made without automatic duplexing abilities are even made anymore. Why kill trees if you don't have to? And even those who are not driven by that consideration should realize that halfing your paper costs and/or halving the bulk of documents can be a great convenience in some situations (i.e. printing out documents for travel, etc..)- Super deep paper tray (minimizes the # of times I have to put in more paper and have print jobs stop because I forgot)- The wi-fi functionality works consistently (and resets automatically after power outages, etc.)- No glitchy software - it just works (...compared to my Canon inkjets, which always need some kind of update, and clutter up my computer with a bunch of crappy tangentially-related software I don't need/want)CONS:- It used to be that we could get cheap third-party High Capacity replacement cartridges for this, and we weren't able to find any last time. That increased the per-page cost tremendously. Hopefully we will be able to find it again, because that made this printer basically perfect for us, in terms of both dependability and cost.
