BEST Notebook I have used.... And I have used many!!!
What can I say, I love notebooks and stationary maybe its the hidden asian gene in me... I have been using Vela notebooks for about two years now and I really really love these notebooks. They are extremely sturdy and have this beautiful binding to them that allows for superb support and doesn't allow the notebook to fall apart and trust me between my busy school schedule and tossing these notebooks, between study sessions, and spilling coffee, to squishing them into my school bag they have survived through lots! One thing that really strikes me about Vela products is the quality of their paper, it is very thick (but not too thick and heavy!) and is perfect for my note taking because my pens/highlighters/markers don't bleed through. They have placed these beautiful light blue lines/grids that are light enough so that you can see but not distracting to the eye, a touch of aesthetic. My water bottle accidentally spilled over my notebooks and my Vela notebook was the only one that really survived.. Sure the papers were a little crumbled but it still functioned like before. I not only have this model of Vela notebooks but many others too and I LOVE THEM! I always get compliments on these notebooks, to me they are the perfect notebook. I have tried Muji, Moleskin, Paccadilly, Peter Press and i enjoy those brands as well but not as much as Vela notebooks. I have about 10 Vela Notebooks and I don't plan on switching to another notebook anytime soon!PROS:-STURDY and reliable paper, will not tear or crumble easily-Has a nice chart of numerical values for math, chem, physics in the back-100+ Pages! Its soooo difficult to find a NICE notebook with more than 100 pages...CONS:-The cover of the notebook will get dirty/worn but this does not bother me too much because the notebook still functions- Price, a little on the expensive side.. I mean 10$ and up for a notebook is a little much but i love stationary so its an investment to meIf you are looking for a Lab/engineering/note taking notebook... Don't hesitate.. purchase and you won't be disappointed :)

Strange mix of good and bad.
This notebook is very well made. The cover is flexible, but robust and has a rubberized outer coating, which makes it feel very durable. The binding is strong and feels like it'll last for a long time. The paper is also very robust (70# = 105 gsm), but exhibits some strange properties. Despite its thickness, the paper shows some feathering and even bleed-through when using a fountain pen. Gel ink seems to work fine, though, with no bleed-through and minimal feathering. This is strange behavior since the manufacturer's notes on first page say they recommend using archive-quality ink to write in this book. The paper surface also appears to have some sort of rubbery or waxy coating or infusion. This results in the paper feeling very rough under the pen nib, with lots of resistance to the nib and excessive feedback. Using a pencil on this paper also feels strange. The aforementioned coating on the paper seems to put up some resistance to the pencil lead depositing a line on the page. Using a 0.5mm HB lead from a mechanical pencil, the lines are rather light and it feels like I need to put extra force into the writing to get the lines to stay. I also don't get positive feedback from the lead - almost as if the lead is tracking over the surface of the paper without interacting with it. Virtually the opposite feeling I get when using a pen.Don't know what the deal is, but given that this notebook is expected to be used in a lab or as an engineer's notes/computations record, the writing experience leaves something to be desired.

Durable and useful
I work in a technical position, in an industry with a constant update of information. Since I don't have a commanding memory, I need to write down details. I used to write on sticky notes, but it became a sea of yellow and my area began to look cluttered.I stumbled upon this notebook, and using it has saved my career. I have separated the book into sections for reference info, projects and staff meeting notes. I now have everything at my fingertips, without appearing forgetful in meetings. Some of my pages have copies of manual sections, technical drawings and screen shots. I have also adorned the outside covers with stickers to display my dark rebellious side. Unfortunately, when I went to upload the pic, it was screened out as promoting other brands. Oh well.In all, the pages are thick and durable, the grid helps with alignment for sketches, and keeps me organized. The cover is water repellent, needs a quick blot after a spill. This my second one, I find that after a year it fills up with data. It's lighter than my laptop, I never have to recharge it, and the data I put into it is mine. It's portable. To conclude, it's interactive - you have to commit to this system for it to work. Though archaic, it works great for me.

Won back a customer with this one VELA
I have purchased three notebooks made by VELA. The first one, a Series-A2 5x5, I was not happy with, to say the least. It had a pretty inconvenient binding error. However, that series is now no longer available, and seems to have been replaced by this Series-A3 5x5. I decided I would give VELA another chance this school term as everything else about the A2 was great. The paper is fantastic quality. The grid is light enough I can ignore it when I want, and dark enough to be useful when I need to use it. I absolutely love these notebooks for note-taking. The two of this new series I ordered came in perfect shape, perfect binding. I wasn't paying attention when I ordered, but noticed when they arrived that they now have rounded corners to prevent catching. These work great, and so far, after about a month of use, the covers have held out very well. The thing I love most, though, about these Series-A3 notebooks, is they have now included an extensive table of constants and conversions on the last page. It is very extensive, though, so the text might be too small for some. See the attached image for a rough glance.Definitely glad I gave VELA a second chance. These notebooks are amazing for the price.
