Good, but not great
Finally I got my first Mephisto model that is true to size and width. I am normally 8 medium and they fit exactly. I have a few other pairs that are narrow and I had to size up. Also I really wanted Helen sandal but it was too narrow with my toes sticking out on side. This design is great, very comfortable fit. I had to tighten up the straps to the furthest point to secure my feet and avoid any hanging loops. Navy Sandalbuck is a beautiful color I really like. Looks more like light black with Navy tone. I've been walking around the house only as I still in testing phase. So far two negative things I noticed. They are stiff and do not bend nicely when you walk. Also there is a little bit of suction right in the middle of the insole that makes clicking sound when I walk.

Mephisto is the only shoe I wear. I have about 20 pairs. Mephisto was recommended to me by an orthopedic doctor when I was having trouble walking without pain. No pain now! They have a great foot bed & arch support. I usually buy 2 pair each year. Some for every day & others for dressy. The best part when they start looking grimy or worn you can send them in to be refurbished at a nominal price. Mephisto even pays shipping. I love them!!!!!!

Definitely worth the price, lasts a decade
These are the only sandals I wear. I have 3 pairs. One I got 15 years ago and I still wear them, the other one 7 years ago and then this pair last year. I prefer the ones with the suede straps over the leather but they are all great. They last forever. My advice is to wear them for a few weeks to break them in and let them conform to your feet. You then put cork glue around the outside of the shoe (on the cork) to help prevent it from splitting. My older ones are split by the straps in the cork but they still function fine, just affects the appearance. These sandals are so amazingly comfortable once they are broken in and conformed to your feet. Love them so much.

Nice shoes-but break them in first...
I am a long time fan of Mephisto shoes but have found that they DO need to be broken in as it were.(i.e. if you just put them on brand new and head out for long walking day etc they are going to ultimately hurt here and there) Just wear them around the house and/or for short walks until they feel right-that has worked for me every time. (I also suggest softening the nubuck with an appropriate leather cleaner too) Overall very happy with my new purchase though (and their shoes-if taken care of-last a LONG time...i am still wearing a comfy pair that i got over 7 years ago!)

Not the same arch support as the Helen
I desperately wanted to love these shoes, but unfortunately they disappointed me for two reasons. First, the strap closest to the ankle is too far up for my comfort. I felt like the strap was cutting into the top of my foot. Loosening the strap further would have only made the shoes slip uncomfortably as I walked. I think the silver straps (which is the color I ordered) may have exacerbated this cutting feeling, as those straps are stiffer than the nubuck type straps. Secondly, the arch support on these sandals is not comparable to other Mephistos. I've owned a pair of Helens for 10 years now, and they cup my arch perfectly. These are distinctly less supportive. I don't know if that's an issue with Hannels only, or if this is a redesign for all Mephisto sandal footbeds. There was a marked difference. These had to be returned. I would have ordered the Helens, but I'm looking for a non-thong sandal that I can wear year-round inside my house with socks in the wintertime. I used to wear Birks, but with age I've found their heel base to be too low to combat my plantar fasciitis tendencies. I'm disappointed and not sure if I should try a different style of Mephistos or give up.

COMFORTABLE - WELL CONSTRUCTED - DURABLE
Well constructed, comfortable, received compliments. I have owned this same shoe in the past (black) and wore them every day, all day for three years. Comfortable until the end. I finally had to toss them when the cork broke in half. I worked in them, walked in them, gardened in them, etc. and loved them. I just received this pair and will be in the market for another (brown or black). I had a different pair of Mephisto (black patent leather with rhinestone buckles) that I loved, but I wore those to death also. Those were my absolute favorite, but they are no longer manufactured. Mephisto, I love you!!!!!

LOVE, LOVE
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Mephisto's. I bought a pair 20 years ago. They have been sent back in to be resoled. Yep, they will that for $75 dollars, postage pairs. You really get your money's worth out of them. I wear a 10wide and with the adjustable straps they fit great. Did I say I LOVE ❤️ them❓ YES I DO🤗❣️🤣

Black Hannel Sandal means Black Bare Feet!
The dye comes off every time I wear them. (Up front I learned that is not a default.) The nu-buck leather is not as soft as previous shoes, so it's taking a long time to break them in. The sole, at first, felt like comfortable slippers, but they're not there yet. I look forward to breaking them in enough, and having the dye stop staining my feet, so that I can enjoy them the way I should!

Beautiful sandal but found they fit narrow. Also found them heavier than Birkenstocks. Didn't work for me.
