Ok I bought this in Nov 2013 now it is Dec 2023 so it’s had time to break in. Originally bought for garage workshop . Keep feet a bit warm but not a space heater by any means. Elderly back yard cat found it & spent all winter sitting on it to the extent that lost fur on her belly. I thought she had a condition but once spring came , her fur grew back. She subsequently got a heated pet mat that was not so hot. Rubber smell is long gone. Have used in a basement bath room, nice but too hot for bare feet. . Probably its best use has been a foot warmer under desk in a cool, cement floored office. It’s worth it. No durability issues, just keeps on working

EDIT 10/9/22: A month after I wrote my review the mat stopped working for no apparent reason. This is very disappointing, but I liked the product enough that I bought another one, exactly the same as the prior one. No issues so far with the new one.I purchased this mat in Sept 2021 and have used it on a daily basis since then. I have a basement home office and this mat keeps my toes warm on the vinyl/cement floor. We have cold, snowy winters where I live, so I bought to keep me warm during the cold months, and I'm still using it now during summer, as the cold air-conditioning tends to sink to the basement. So the floor of the room is cold year round, but my feet are warm now thanks to this mat! As far as temperature, I am happy with the low setting even when stocking footed. If my feet start getting hot, I set them to the side of the mat for a minute or on the legs of my office chair, and then they're cool again within seconds. As far as power, I was concerned about forgetting to turn the mat off, so I connected it to a smart outlet that is scheduled to turn off every day at a set time in the evening. That way if I do forget to turn it off, it will only be left on for a few hours rather than for possibly days at a time. For the price it is an excellent value and has made a huge difference in my personal comfort while working at my desk.After 9 months of use, it appears to be in near-excellent condition with some light wear marks showing as would be expected from a rubber floor mat that is used daily.The mat is soft and pliable with no signs of cracking.I was cautious when I saw the photos from the reviewers who showed their mats cracking and falling apart. I decided to make the purchase anyway based on the large amount of positive feedback. After using the mat for 9 months I am left wondering how these other customer used their mats and if they left them turned on 24/7 for months? The rubber material of my mat is quite flexible and I don't know how it could have become so brittle as to crack like this unless the mat had been extremely overheated for a significant period of time. My mat is showing no signs of cracking, nor does it seem to be getting hard or brittle. I have used it for 9 months, 8-10 hours per day, Monday-Friday, and sometimes for several hours on the weekends also.

02-06-2010 Before I bought this electric floor heating mat, I did my normal research. The biggest complaint that I found, albeit a somewhat dated one, was that when this floor mat got hot, it smelled, terribly. I even called the manufacturer and what they said, was that the problem was remedied by a change in the rubber compound. And that it would, even with the new compound still smell for a few days. At least they were being honest about it. They also suggested that if the smell was going to be a problem, just plug it in outdoors, in a protected area from the weather, etc., for a few days and that would work. I decided to take a chance, and bought it. When it arrived I just set it up on the floor, under my computer desk, which is in an unheated room of the house. It did smell for a few days, and to my thinking not to terrible. This is 'subjective' on my part, those of you who buy it, may find that the odor is objectionable. If so just plug it in outdoors for a few days, as suggested earlier. After about five days of continuous use the smell just faded away. The smell is now COMPLETELY gone, not a trace. My feet are warm, toasty, and I'm a happy camper. Three more comments/complaints. First)This mat does get quite warm, 90 watts of heat, 'great' if you're standing on it with shoes on, not so great, if you're seated, as I am at a desk, and kick your shoes off, and have either sock feet, or bare feet on it. It gets too warm for that. If I'm not mistaken there is an additional item that you can buy that will cut the heat down some, although I forget what it's called. It amounts to some sort of a temperature control. Second)This item comes with NO on/off switch. Somewhat inconvenient to always have to plug and unplug it, in order to turn it on and off. (I never go away from the house and leave this item plugged in, and suggest that no one go away and leave this item or any other item like it plugged in, for safety reasons.) The least they could have done was to install an inline power switch. Minor complaint, I guess. The item mentioned above that can be purchased separately to control the temperature, may, or may not, have a power switch with it, I just don't recall. Third)And this is just a comment, not a complaint. This mat does take a few minutes (5-10 min) to warm up. It also will take a few minutes to warm your feet as well, if you are wearing shoes or boots. All in all, I'm pleased with it, and my tootsies are toasty. I'm just sorry that I didn't buy it sooner. I am not sure what everyone is talking about with the smell. I took the chance and ordered this rubber heated matt regardless of the reviews. I found that when first turned on and it started to heat up it had a normal rubber smell for maybe one minute, then nothing. Don't listen to these reviews I think people just need something to always complain about maybe lol. This product is great I am using it under my desk on a cement shop floor. This product for me is a game changer. I no longer have freezing feet. Overall extremely happy with this purchase.

Great little mat to keep my feet warm in the basement. We have a ceramic tiled basement and my office is there. During Covid, and working from home, I spend most of my days at my workstation where my feet would be exposed to the coolness of the floor and they would be so cold by mid day. With this heat mat, they are warm all day long. Simple and easy to switch on and off. An added bonus is that since it’s made from durable rubber, the mat lays flat and doesn’t bunch up. Would highly recommend if you’re suffering from cold feet and have a simple setup as mine.

I had some doubts this would work through the thick soles of my shoes, but it works great, no more cold feet, way better than electric socks and without the hassle of power banks.
