LOVE IT !
As usual I was looking to replace a Sony 5 disk changer, bought in the mid 90s at the peak of cd tech. Now the selection is slim anywhere you look. I bought the Yamaha because I trust the brand. Things I like The cd sound is bad ass! I cant say enough about it. It does everything the old cd player did. shuffles the cd and the song with every new selection. You can change out cds while its playing. Easy install, a power cord and two wires, left and right, to plug into the amp. BEST OF ALL is that this unit is designed to work hand in hand with I Pod tech. When I read about this in the owners manual I was very curious. I have a older ipod that has problems. the battery runs out quickly and the >> no longer works on the wheel. Its a 16 GB with 1700 songs. So the advance button was the first to go. This is no longer a problem. The Yamaha has a USB port in the front. You plug in your ipod select USB, the ipod turns itself on and the Yamaha hand remote will control all the basic commands. You still have to program the ipod if you want to listen to a specific artist or album and select shuffle if you want songs played randomly. The battery is no longer a problem because when USB is selected and the ipod is plugged in its being charged. I just leave my little ipod with all its songs, plugged in, and laying on the Yamaha. This unit just brought back to life a great little piece of technology. So now, for me, its twice the value! Things I don't like. Like with all fading tech, lack of interest drives, or rather, no longer drives the market. so the digital display in the front of the unit is very very small, unlike my Sony. The remote is not great but its ok. Ill leave with just a couple thoughts, because this type of tech has run its coarse it has the potential to possess the very best of all the cd developments that occurred during that time. I think that's why it sounds so good Adding the digital option is a really nice touch but it was inevitable. I will say that cds sound better than the ipod but that could just be me.

Excellent CD player, with minor quibbles
I received the Yamaha C600BL CD player very quickly after the order was placed. It arrived undamaged, was easy to set up, intuitive to operate, and the improvement in sound quality compared to my old Sony CD deck was striking from the first disc I played. My wonderful old Fried Studio Four speakers have never sounded better than with this player. For the price, it is an excellent value. Having used it for only a couple of weeks, there is no way to assess the reliability, but there have certainly been no hints of any problems to come. It is easy to hear the unit changing discs, but it is no noisier than other players in its class and is not distracting. When switching between tracks on a disc, the delay seems a little long - three seconds or so - but is not really a problem. One feature is to be able to dim or turn off the display, and that should, in principle, reduce the background noise. However, I am unable to detect any difference at all - a good thing as it means there is no real disadvantage of leaving it on. The only feature I wish the unit had is a headphone jack to allow more direct access to the sound than one obtains by plugging into the main power amp. However, the sound quality is so good that the need for headphones is greatly reduced, so I don't think I'll miss using them much. My only significant criticism is reserved for the remote. First, it is rather bland and symmetrical, the buttons all have the same shape, and the button labels are all very small. Thus, you really have to look closely to find the one you want to push. This will improve with time, of course, as one becomes more familiar with the layout of the remote, but it would have been easy to design it with a better human interface. The other problem with the remote is that there is no way to select an arbitrary one of the five discs. Instead, the only function it provides is "disc skip" that allows skipping only from one to the next. If the disc I want is not in the next position, I find myself just having to get up and select it by pushing the appropriate button on the cd player itself. Overall, the remote is OK but is definitely the weakest link in the design. Overall, I recommend this unit, at least so far.

Every Bit Much, Much Better Than Good Enough
The only reasons I wanted and bought the Yamaha CD-C600BL 5-Disc CD Changer was for its 24-bit digital/analog conversion rate and the 5-disc capacity. I never had better than 16-bit D/A cd or dvd players; I read reviews here that convinced me to get a 24-bit D/A player. I have two new Denon AV receivers and older NAD stereo equipment, plus high-quality loudspeakers; so I was eligible to notice very superior sound. I can't compare the Yamaha CD-C600BL 5-Disc CD Changer to any other 24-bit cd player because I haven't listened to others with my systems. The package includes a stereo RCA phono cable, a remote w/batteries, and a bare-bones user manual that covers everything in direct and simple language. The connections include one left/right RCA phono plug output, one optical (Toslink) digital output, and a RS-232C terminal. However, the optical cable isn't included with the package (nor is a serial cable for the RS-232C connection). I've connected the player via the ('analog') RCA cables and also using the optical Toslink cable. I notice no audible difference between the connections. Why should there be any difference, anyhow? The digital information on the cd has been converted to analog by the player so that the preamplifier and amplifier can process it, and then send it in analog form to the 'analog' speakers. If the cd's digital signal is destined to be input to another digital processor or device, the optical digital cable would be the best way to make that connection (well, there's also a RS-232C terminal, but it's not as pure as the optical handshake). In essence, connecting with the RCA plugs makes a perfect connection, just as perfect as the 'digital' optical cable makes. The sound is obviously superior to 16-bit D/A players. Some meaningful sounds that weren't audible are now audible; previously audible sounds no longer have any masking. There must be one of those laws that applies here, but I don't know of it: For each improvement in quality - more watts in a high-end amplifier, minimal harmonic distortion, full frequency response, precise loudspeakers, 24-bit digital-to-analog conversion rate - you can listen to the full sound at a lower volume. It saves your hearing in the long run. Sure, the changer makes its mechanical noise when it rotates each disc into the laser reader. Vinyl record changers made more noise than that when the needle reached the label and jerked off the record (haha), when the tone arm swung out of the way and the next record plopped down - hey, if you couldn't hear anything mechanical, your heart would be in your throat hoping nothing is broken. As I write this, the Yamaha cd changer is only some two feet from my ears, and I happen to like the sound of its carousel. Be careful, though, when the tray is open as you're adding or removing discs - the tray could close from your inadvertent pressure; it spins and closes fast; you could break a valuable fingernail on a guitar-playing finger. Being an old hand with home audio gear, I can't say if there's anything difficult about the Yamaha's set-up and use. I'd say it's designed and made to be as plug-and-play as possible. For anyone who has passed the Audio 101 course, the Yamaha CD-C600BL 5-Disc CD Changer is super-intuitive. You know, buttons with arrows this way, arrows that way, and so on (or off). The product's name speaks for itself: Yamaha Natural Sound Compact Disc Changer.

A very Good CD Player
The Yamaha CD-C600 is a great unit, with very good sound. I find the sound clean and rich. The play mechanism seems quiet, no noise. Set-up was very easy and the unit played the first time with no problems. The CD load time is a bit slow, however there are other brands that are slower. The CD tray opens to display all 5 CD bays at once. I find that the 2 CDs in the back are a bit awkward to remove. I would have preferred the single CD removal option found on other 5 disc players. The USB port works with all my memory sticks and I have had no problems playing MP3 re-writable CDs recorded from my computer. It is important to note that the disc used must be ISO 9660 compatible. In regard to MP3 filesโฆ please read the Manual! I find the display area a bit narrow, however adequate and readable. The display has 4 brightness levels that can be accessed by the remote. The remote itself looks clean and logical. I would have liked Yamaha to display the commands in bolder type on the remote, as I have trouble reading it at times. In regards to features in general I do miss the calendar display that lists all tracks of the cd being played. I know few if any CD players have this feature, however that was not the case in the past. It is extremely helpful in programming mode. All said the Yamaha CD-C600 has some nice features such as Random mode, Disc Scan which scans beginning of all CDs, Play Memory Mode, which resumes your last track played and an Auto Standby feature. I think The Yamaha CD-C600 is a very good unit that should merit serious consideration.

This Yamaha CD-600 Bests Denon's DCM-390 performance!!!
Bought the Yamaha CD-C600BL as a replacement for currently offered Denon DCM-390 5-Disc changer which I listened to everyday for 2 years. The Denon, while excellent, is bested by this Yamaha in most ways. However, the differences in sound quality between these two players, while discernible, are less than 5% according to my ears. That being said, I would characterize the Yamaha as being fuller in the bass and smoother in the vocals and highs than the Denon. Additionally I would say the Yamaha has slightly better timing and cohesion of sound staging. The only thing the Denon has going for it that the Yamaha doesn't is the HDCD decoder which isn't a big deal because few discs are recorded with the HDCD embedded code that allows a 20-bit resolution playback. My office stereo system is a pair of Wharfedale Diamond Standmount speakers, with a Yamaha RX-797 100watt receiver with high quality interconnects & bi-wired speaker cable. I play jazz, new age, pop, vocals, etc all day long as I am a massage therapist. When you listen to music all day long as I do, that 5% difference in sound quality makes a big difference in taking the edge off listening fatigue--I really appreciate it. Functionally, the Yamaha's changing mechanism is faster, quieter, and more graceful changing discs than the Denon. I disagree with one reviewer who thinks this player is slow. All the 5 Disc changers are sloooooow. This one is relatively fast in my estimation. The Yamaha remote could be a little better: The disc skip and the track skip are quite a distance apart and the labeling is small for my 46 yr. old eyes. The really, really, big deal about this Yamaha is the front panel MP3 player USB port! This was the feature that sold me. I can load many, many, cd's converted to MP3's loss-less format onto my iPod Nano (16Gigabytes) and enjoy a cd quality playback without ever having to change a single cd in the changer. The Yamaha takes the data from the Ipod without using the Ipod's inferior DAC/amp/preamp circuits and uses instead the cd player's superior DAC (digital-to-analog converter)for playback. The Ipod is fully a high fidelity component in my system! My how times are a changing. This piece of equipment is a delight at the Amazon price. I got it sent overnight for a mere $4 shipping upgrade with Amazon's free 30-day trial offer: Free second-day-air-for-a-year-program for $70 per year. Heck, the clerk at FedX told me it would have cost approximately $100 to overnight this shipment. I got my money's worth in the first shipment so now it's free 2nd day air for a whole year anytime I order through Amazon. What a bargain! I'm thrilled all the way around. I highly recommended this Yamaha CD player and Amazon. Thank you Yamaha! 02/02/2015 Review Update. It's been almost 5 years since I purchased this machine. It has played flawlessly for 4 days/week and 6hrs/day for almost 5 years now. No problem whatsoever. Not even a hiccup. Could not be happier.

Great CD player- sounds amazing & is user friendly!
I bought this after reading so many good reviews of it and I concur- this CD player sounds amazing and is very user friendly and the price is good as well. It sounds both dynamic and delicate. It has a huge, warm range. I couldn't be happier with it. It is also solidly built. It has a good weight to it. It does not feel cheap at all. It starts right up, plays right away, changes disks quickly too. I'm not sure what the complaints are about that. Also, you can absolutely change disks with the remote- I don't know what some of those complaints are about either. This is a great CD player. I can't believe I hadn't bought it years ago. It comes with rca cables & batteries for the remote and everything. I had it running within 10 minutes of taking it out of the box. One thing I do reccomend is measuring your stereo cabinet because it barely fit in mine. My cabinet has a glass door on it. No problem though, just saying... I figured that the technology has peaked for CD players and was a bit intimidated by the high price of so many CD players out there. CD player technology has been around for a long time. This one is well priced. It sounds very expensive. I couldn't be happier with this CD player! Buy with confidence.

Great CD player for continuous music.
I purchased this CD player to replace an older Yamaha that died. It has served me well for years, and I hope it keeps going. The 6 disc function is great for continuous music. With any luck, it will keep going for a long time.

Yamaha ...no more
I recently bought this unit, since all my music system is Yamaha-based. I had been a happy and loyal Yamaha customer for the last 15 years...until now. After a relatively easy installation, I was ready to start enjoying my new acquisition. Unfortunately, regardless of how many discs I placed in the tray, or how I placed then, the unit kept showing a NO DISC" message. I contacted the retailer who said that only the manufacturer (Yamaha) could help me with this problem. After waiting for a week to hear from Yamaha, I returned the unit, requesting a replacement, since I was still a faithful customer and I understood that sometime you get the one that falls between the cracks. The second unit arrived, and after a similar installation process, all was happiness, since the unit was delivering an acceptable sound considering the price of the unit. However this happiness was short lived since a few minutes in the second disc no sound was heard anymore and a "LOADING" message appeared. This situation continued happening randomly in the first disc, or in the third, but once the "LOADING" message appeared there was nothing else to do, but to shut off the unit and turning it on again to be able to open the tray. I gave up, returned the unit (second shipping charges) and requested my money back. I do not know if Yamaha is giving minimum attention to quality control of their low-end products, or that the whole quality control of the brand is going downhill. Whatever the reason, I am loyal customer no more. Now (too late I suppose) I have been reading some reviews and I seem to find several similar comments. This may confirm my evaluation regarding Yamaha quality. What a shame, after all these years.

Yamaha CD player
I'm happy with this DVD player had no problems with it and it works as it should the only frustrating thing is when you turn it on it cycles through the carousel to see if there's a disc inside and your standing there knowing there isn t one and waiting to press the button to open the tray I turn it on before I sort out the CD now because it annoys me waiting for it..

Frame not earthed
On touching the front panel of the player it was clear that the player's frame was charged. I measured 80-100v between the frame and earth. I'm sure that this shouldn't be happening but I solved the problem by replacing the plug supplied with the player (no earth but simply a plastic pin 'false' earth) with a normal 13amp plug and connected an extra piece of wire from the earth to the rear panel.
