Certified as a Part 23 aerobatical aircraft by the Federal Aviation Regulation, the T-3A Slingsby was a training aircraft that trained many student pilots in the basics of military-style maneuvers and traffic patterns. It featured a cockpit with a sliding canopy and dual throttles, among other innovations. With its fully composite structure, the aircraft also featured an integral fuel tank in each wing and tricycle style, fixed landing gear. The Slingsby was primarily used by the Air Education and Training Command of the US Air Force to train pilots in combat aerobatics and spins, aside from the usual military techniques. It superseded the T-41aircraft due to the T-41's incapability of performing such maneuvers.
