Excellent movie.Loved the Boccherini mudic

Having read all of the Aubry-Maturin novels by Patric O'Brian, this particular movie is a mish-mash of several of them not a true recitation of the first novel in the series that gives the movie it's name. That aside, this is an amazing movie which I enjoy watching over and over again. The novels are so well researched and written with such detail that you can almost smell the salt air while reading them. This movie gives the same feeling - each time I watch it I feel like I'm on the deck of the HMS Surprise. Russell Crow, while not my favorite person, is an amazing actor and brings Jack Aubry to life. Paul Bettany is equally wonderful as Stephen Maturin. There are some parts of the movie which will not be fully understood unless you have read some of the novels. It's wonderful escapism with a beautiful soundtrack of Jack and Stephen's favorite music.

This was one of Russell Crowe’s movies I missed...love his work...he is like a chameleon and becomes the part he plays, always different..the sure tell of a great actor. Really enjoyed this movie beautifully shot mostly at sea and on board shop. Done so well.

Great film -- the story, the acting, the action, and the production values ... its all there.

Possibly one of the great movies of all time!
