Heartfelt, charming, sweet, and unforgettable!
This book emotionally devastated me for a week, it was that good. I couldn't begin to even think about picking up another book for days afterward, because I loved this so much and immediately wanted to reread it. Originally, I checked out a library copy, but I had to own this one.Weylyn is an unforgettable character, and I get the feeling he's going to stick around in my mind for quite some time. I really enjoyed the magic realism in this, though it may be a stretch to call it that. It was charming with just the right amount of whimsical fantasy to it. Even those of us who aren't into a lot of fantastical elements (I'm okay with fantasy, to an extent, but some older folks I know are not) can enjoy this one. It's down-to-earth enough for you to see Weylyn for what he is - just a boy, and then a man, who is special and more than meets the eye. While there are also alternating viewpoints, they're set in an almost short story format, all focusing on telling a new story with Weylyn at the center. It's almost like a collection of short memoirs about one man. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes a light read that keeps you wanting more.

Feel good, refreshing
Makes you stop and examine the human condition. How society has programmed us. It's an open honest look at human nature, life, and magic. Not hocus pocus magic, like REAL magic. Things that could or couldn't happen, coincidence, chance, luck, love, and being present in nature. I literally couldn't put the book down and finished it in two sittings. I wish it was the kind of book that went on forever, but it was just right. Just enough mystery. It's a book that makes you think, and is so beautifully written.

Wonderfully Magical!
Reading this book is a magical experience! It took me on a journey with a strange boy and introduced me to all the wonderful characters and events that made up his journey through life. Weylan's parents died unexpectedly when he was very young and, instead of going to an orphanage or to live with relatives, he went to the Forrest instead and lived with wolves. Mary was a young girl who felt a missing something in her life, and , when she met Weylan, decided to run away with him and live in the wild. As time went by, Mary noticed that there was definitely something different about Weylan. For one thing, he could understand everything animals said to him, plants and trees seemed to grow faster around him, and, Mary didn't know for sure, but, she felt he might be able to affect the weather somehow. They lived a wonderful adventure until the money Weylan had ran out and they began to starve. One night, without telling Mary, Weylan decided to steal a cow. When Mary found him, she yelled at him to stop, but he didn't. The farmer came with a shotgun and began to shoot at Weylan. Ma, Weylan's wolf mother rushed to defend him and the farmer shot her dead. The police came and that was the end of Mary's adventure. From then on, Weylan's life changed as he went to live with a pastor's family but that didn't change the fact that Weylan was different from anyone else and always would be. Don't miss out on reading this wonderful, magical book. It is unlike anything you've read before and, if you're at all like me, you will treasure your time with it, want to keep it, and definitely will read it again.

The Year that Weylyn Grey Showed Everyone Just What Kind of Things Were Possible
DR. DANIEL FOUST, OB/GYN“I have delivered over a thousand babies in my career, but one in particular stands out in my mind. Weylyn was by all outward appearances a healthy baby boy: eight pounds, two ounces, all the necessary parts accounts for, and a wail that could shatter good china. He fit perfectly in the crook of his mother’s arm and watched her with one eye, carefully, as she was still a stranger to him. I would have forgotten all about this seemingly ordinary child if it hadn’t been for the storm.“The moment Weylyn took his first bewildered gulp of fresh air, it began to snow. Not just a few flurries, but buckets of the stuff, tumbling through the sky and belly flopping on the ground outside the hospital room window. By the time the nurses had him cleaned and swaddled, there was a good six inches on the ground.“It was June 29.“The child turned one eye on me, then opened the other like a backward wink. His irises were molten pools of solder that had not yet set, and for a moment I thought I could see a fire behind them, keeping them liquid.“‘He’s a healthy baby boy,’ I told the mother, trying my best not to sound unnerved.“Weylyn’s eyes closed peacefully, and the snow melted almost as quickly as it had fallen, leaving shimmering gray puddles on the sidewalk below.”The story of Weylyn Gray, is a young, eccentric boy, gifted in unusual ways, as this story begins. A story that is filled with humour and adventures, a collection of entertaining animals, with a light sprinkling of magical realism, this one will leave you smiling. Raised by wolves after both his parents died, Weylyn is a special child, who learns easily how to adapt, and when a runaway girl’s adventure results in his story being exposed, he is soon placed in a home with a family.Shared between the stories of multiple viewpoints, I loved Weylyn, a special character that we watch begin as a boy and grow into a man. A man who has special gifts, gifts that cause some people to taunt him or fear him, and others to find him oddly profound, gentle and giving – or just plain odd – but most find his calm ways gentle and comforting.”I had once asked my dad if he believed in magic. He’d said he believed in ‘possibilities.’ That year, Weylyn Grey showed us all just what kind of things were possible.”There’s a fairly frequent theme of Nature throughout this story: wolves, trees, fireflies, flowers, plants, along with other animals run through this story which added a calming, enchanting atmosphere to this, which I loved.

interesting story line
Very interesting story through two thirds of the way, heading fo the conclusion. But the conclusion doesn't come, and the story seems to straggle along. I did finish it just to see if the pace was picked up again. I realize that story writing must be like painting a picture - it is sometimes difficult to tell when it is time to finish.

Magical, whimsical and fabulous tale!
This was a Traveling Friends read that I almost missed participating in as I didn’t have myself a copy of this book but after popping into the first goal thread I knew that I had to rectify that immediately. The words magic, whimsical, and mysterious are definitely elements that I am attracted to so on my way to Amazon I went.BEASTS OF EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCE by RUTH EMMIE LANG is an engaging, charming, heartwarming, and a mesmerizing tale that gave me such a warm and serene feeling while I was reading this book. I was totally entranced in this tale right from the very beginning which is about a young boy named Weylyn who was raised by wolves.RUTH EMMIE LANG delivers an absolutely beautifully written, appealing, and magical read here with a storyline that will bewitch you and enchanting characters that you won’t soon forget. Weylyn by far was such a special, endearing, and the most wonderful character that I have ever come across in a book. His innocence and sweet demeanour was so adorable and truly extraordinary. The way that we got to know Weylyn through the stories of everyone that he encountered throughout his life was such a clever and heartfelt way to truly and wholeheartedly embrace this character. The magical realism of this novel wasn’t really explained to us in too much depth and I would have liked that to have been explored a little bit more. But, with that being said I do absolutely believe that leaving us with a little bit of mystery and wonderment to the circumstances surrounding Weylyn’s extraordinary life was quite the clever and brilliant way to end this story.I was truly entertained & thoroughly enjoyed escaping into Weylyn’s extraordinary life every time I held this book in my hands! Would highly recommend!

his book was a complete joy.
I had no idea what to make of this book, I hadn’t heard anything about it and the synopsis, rather than enlightening me, confused me. I’m so glad I picked it up and read it though and I think it is possibly my favourite book I have ever read. It reminded me of Shiver and The Bone Gap mixed together and I adored every minute. During the book we follow the life of an extraordinary man, Welwyn, told through all the various people he meets along his journey. It is spellbinding and reads like a fairy tale, lulling you along with it. The writing is hypnotic and you just don’t want the book to ever end. And through it all is one of the sweetest love stories I have ever read. This book was a complete joy.
