Lionel Andres Messi: Domenico Dolce

I am very glad that I did not purchase this book at its original price when it first was published! Upon receiving it today, it was very obvious why they dropped the original price by $130 - and even then the reduced price is still way too much for what it is. It is a "nice enough" book in terms of the large format, but you are left with a series of (very average) glossy pictures of Messi in D&G designer outfits where he just looks very awkward, as he is not a natural clotheshorse. The idea behind the book was probably quite innovative - a world famous soccer player in the photographer's own world famous clothing brand, but then perhaps someone like a Cristiano Ronaldo would have been a far better choice - he fits the image perfectly. Much as I respect Messi for his brilliant game, this is just not who he is. In the end, all the pictures just look the same - expressionless and emotionless. What Mr Gabbana also may want to consider (be)for his next project is to hire a manicurist. When you photograph Messi this close up, you need to send the poor guy for a manicure beforehand - his bitten nails and torn cuticles are so bad that your eyes are drawn to it in every picture. Unless you are a massive Messi fan, this book is not for you. But I guess soccer fans won't be interested in this genre of books anyway. Perhaps Mr Gabbana embarked on this project as an ode to himself. But he should rather stick to designing clothes.

高価なのに、全頁の6割ほどにもわたり、紙を雑に扱ったときに出来る、大きな爪あとのようなくっきりした折り皺が確認され、不愉快になりました。本の角も潰れていて、嗚呼あ。ネットショッピング…内容は、どんなにエロティックで冒涜的な視線をドメニコ・ドルチェが投げかけても、世界の宝物・メッシは超然と愛らしい。そんなことを再確認させてくれる、ばかでかい割に製品管理がずさんな、ある種の奇書、だと思います
