Djembe Pickup by Myers Pickups

I'm revising my 3 star review to 4 stars, after more testing. The mic is quite sensitive to the various drum tones, as proven by recording with a looper I just tried. The mic is mounted with screws "almost" at the bottom of the drum, which I play in a forward tilted position on the floor, rather than a stand, or standing using a strap. The sound coming out the bottom of the drum is reflected up into the tiny mic, mounted so the mic faces down (on the side of the drum facing me). My first attempt had the mic mounted higher up on the drum and did not produce good results!I may have given it 5 stars, but I thought this item was made for drums and would have specific instructions for this use. The instructions are generic for "instruments" and required some experimentation, which was difficult without actually screwing it onto my drum. I think with djembe-specific instructions, it would rate 5 stars.I will be using this pickup at open mics, rather than a mic/stand, as I think I've got the bugs worked out now and I think it's as good as a mic.

Fantastic little pickup for my djembe. Built-in preamp with volume knob is a big plus. All you need to do is mount it and plug it in... comes ready to go, lithium battery included. Comes packed with three ways to mount it; I chose to screw it on permanently. Will get a second one for my daughter's ukulele and use the suction cup on that one.Great support from Myers. I emailed Gregg with a question and he phoned me within a few hours with a solution. Great product - great service. Highly recommend.
