Islam at the Crossroads

This book, written by Muhammad Asad, is an excellent overview and thoughtful book about Islam. Although probably not for the reader wanting to know the basics about Islam--this book is more in depth and detailed, and more for the more knowledgeable reader. Muslims should read this to get a clearer picture of how Western civilization and culture, and the culture of the Islamic Deen, can or should interact. There's so much each culture can gain from each other, without losing the essentials specific to their own beliefs and ways of life. Asad does an excellent job exploring that, and I highly recommend this thoughtful book.

Islam at theCrossroads was written as a plea to the Muslims of that generation to avoida blind imitation of Western social forms and values, and to try to preserveinstead their Islamic heritage which once upon a time had been responsible forthe glorious many-sided historical phenomenon comprised in the term "MuslimCivilization". But, as it happened, much of what the author has aimed at wassubsequently misunderstood by the readers and leaders who failed to grasp thefull implications of his call to cultural creativeness and to return to the trueideology of the Qur'an and Sunnah. This revised edition, it is hoped, wouldclarify something of the tragic confusion nowadays prevailing in the Muslimworld. This is dedicated to the Muslim youth of today, just as the original 1934edition was dedicated to the Muslim youth of those days.

I've read several books by venerable, late Muhammad Asad (may Allah bless his soul and illuminate his grave).This is a rather short book that urges Muslims of his time (and of our time as well) to abandom blind imitation of the West and revive the Islamic spirit. His message in prose is very similar to what Allama Iqbal composed in poetry. A must read for our youth.

He calls on Muslims to live up to Islamic principles and strive to improve humanity.

Great book

Great book. One must read this, particularly students.For those who thinks what happened to the muslim ummah today,must for them to understand the reasons behind that & which are the forces behind this,, I love this book. & most importantly this book is reccommended by Allama Iqbal(R.A).So what you need more, Go for it..

A must-read for Indian youth to protect Indian culture in general and Muslim culture in particular. the writer guides how to be choosy in accepting utilities from so called modern and progressive western culture, so as to protect the personal, social, intellectual and spiritual values of India.
