Resurrection Done Right
Over 20 years earlier the Fearful Symmetry story (also referred to as "Kraven's Last Hunt") showed that not only could Kraven The Hunter work in modern comics, but, when done right, he in fact worked better than most of Spider-Man's superpowered supervillains. Unfortunately in that same story they killed off the character, which became one of comics' classic deaths. Many of the negative revues shown there are a reflection of fanboy outrage because this the story that resurrects Kraven The Hunter. But 20 years is longer than most deaths in comics and what ends up happening over time is that reverence for one really good story has kept the character, that it showed could work, off the table in the modern era. The result is that we've had two decades of Kraven-wanna-bes. Obviously there has been something missing since this classic character was taken off the table. This story corrects that.Contrary to what another reviewer wrote, this is NOT a sequel to Fearful Symmetry! That story stands on it's own. The only relationship this story to that one is that this story resurrects the character that that one killed off. All of the back story here is related to events that had been building up in the Amazing Spider-Man series for about a year earlier, but you really don't need to read those other stories to get up to speed. There might be threads that you might not understand the reference to but they're not important to the story. In fact, most of those threads are fairly forgettable as what one of the things this story does is take elements that had been pretty lame in the past and make them kind of cool.Even though this is not a sequel to Fearful Symmetry it does pay reverence to that story by respecting that story. Kraven is not happy to be resurrected. He is not happy that the events in that other story, which he orchestrated, have been reversed. And hopefully fans who hold reverence for that story, but also understand why the character can't be kept off the table, can feel some comfort in that Kraven has even more internal conflict about his resurrection than they do.This is a good read. It's one of the darker Spider-Man Stories. It has amazing art by Michael Lark, who has proven himself on some of the industry's best books to be one of the masters of modern comics. I strongly recommend this book for people who might be apprehensive about the book because they think Spider-Man books aren't serious enough. This is just as strong as some of the better Batman or Daredevil books that have been done in the same time period.

Mostly disappointing with flashes of the fantastic
Being a lifelong Spider-Man fan I try to keep up with the series whenever I can afford the steeply priced collections. Reading the many volumes that built up to The Grim Hunt I was ridiculously excited to read the climactic chapters. Unfortunately what I found was a muddy story that had some good moments.I've never been a fan of the spiritual aspect that Marvel injected in to Spidey's powers and place in the universe. Its always felt hokey, unbelievable, and never very well thought out. This is no different except in that they decided that death and violence would lead weight to the story they were trying to tell, and it did...at first. A character dies near the beginning of the book and it is emotional and powerful and left me so staggered that I had to put down the book. But then things get confusing and the story ultimately wanders around to a lackluster conclusion, and rushes some important moments. Would I recommend this book? No, not unless you were a big fan of the Webhead and you had been reading every book up to this point.

Beware the Spider!
The culmination of 5 volumes of The Gauntlet lead to this, The Grim Hunt! The Gauntlet pushed Spider-Man to his mental and physical limits. Can he survive when he's at his weakest, or will the hunt push him over the edge? Won't spoil the ending, read it and enjoy it!

great tale
Spider-Man pushed to the point he wants to kill. Kraken and family are great antagonists for this story. Who could ask for more?

Bloody and unconvincing
I'm going to review this and then take it off my kindle. 'Grim' doesn't describe it - this is a horror comic: mystical, bloody and dark. But this isn't Sandman or Swamp Thing, it is Spider-Man. Spider-man is sick, outnumbered, his spider family threatened - why exactly doesn't he call the Avengers or the FF? Did he lose his spider-phone? Spider mysticism just seems silly, and poorly thought out. Kraven the Hunter...sorry, can't get past the shirtless lion vest thing. **Spoiler Alert** I bought this because I had a soft spot for Maddie Franklin after Alias Vol. 3: The Underneath ; she was really beaten down in that and I hoped for something more...heroic for her. Early on in this volume she suffers a really horrible, hopeless, un-heroic death with her spider pals just beginning to figure out she was missing - no Jessicas looking to save her this time. Never a popular or successful character, I don't foresee a triumphant resurrection for her - maybe we'll see her in Hell, as a nightmare, or maybe a zombie/spider-monster. I went pretty quickly through the stages- denial, anger, scoffing, boredom and buyer's remorse - now I'm ready to move on.

Kraven is just about as upset as I was!
SPOILER ALERT!The culmination of this book is the revival of Kraven the Hunter. Which is a shame, because his death in Kraven's Last Hunt is one of the best comics written of all time. The only solace for me is that Kraven himself seems to be just as ticked off and angry at being resurrected as I was.Unfortunately, since they lacked the incredible story-telling that Kraven's Last Hunt had, they attempt to make this book "dark" and "meaningful" by going a bit over the top with the violence. It comes off as cheap and meaningless, in my opinion. Really, all you actually need to know from this book is that Kraven is back. If you're content with knowing only that, you can skip buying and reading the entire book and save yourself some money.

Grim Hunt
Takes place just before the new Spaiderman series title "Big Time". Though you must read Spider Man: the Gauntlet before reading this,

Not the best, and not the worst.
I loved the art here, but the story was only average for me. It wasn't as fluid as some of the build up Gaunlet books before it.

Art was perfect
The art is definitely good and it was definitely interesting but totally different to what I expected. Not sure if I liked it or not but I am glad I own it.
