Personal Hygiene? What's that Got to Do with Me?

Great for special needs class
I teach high school students on the Autism Spectrum and this has been a great resource for my class. I bought a class set for each student and have found this very helpful for them. The book speaks their language and has a variety of ways to get the point across. It has vocab, stories, charts, and experiments to help drive home the point. The kids also enjoy the cartoons to look at while reading. I highly recommend this to any teacher who has been struggling to find ways to to get the importance of personal hygiene across.

Great starting point!
This book is a great starting point for having conversations about puberty and hygiene. I think it will be the basis for a few social stories to make with the "kid" in the house. It could be more detailed, but the Q & A section at the end of each topic is very detailed.

Was hoping for more pictures
Really was hoping for more pictures for my learning disabled kids. Also pages are cheap thin brown.

Many could use this book
This is a wonderful approach to talking about the care and keeping of the body. The language is perfect especially for teens. Thank you so much for writing this.

Probably ok for some, Contained a good amount of personal opinion stated as fact
Some of the information was good, but not everything matched up with what I’m trying to get across with the kids I’m teaching. Some things stated as hard fact are what I consider opinions or subjective. For example, saying that girls must change their pads every 3-4 hours isn’t accurate for girls who have a very heavy flow, but that exact time frame is specified multiple times. It’s not exactly wrong, but not exactly correct for everyone, either.I felt like some hygiene issues were over-explained and some were under-explained. Others were explained in a confusing way (such as a whole paragraph about why you shouldn’t use too little or too much shampoo, without giving any indication of how you’re supposed to know how much is too much or too little).I felt like some of the sections specifically for girls were sort of demeaning. “SOME girls don't like to have hairy pits (hair growing in the armpits) or long, dark hairs growing on their legs” (this statement was accompanied by a cartoon of a girl who looks like some sort of village idiot with body hair like a Sasquatch). (Why do they assume that any girl who doesn’t shave would have “long” “dark” hair on her legs? Some light-haired girls or girls of certain ethnicities don’t even have noticeable leg hair). It feels like they are kind of making fun of any girl who doesn’t get on board and shave, because otherwise they are literally an ape. I thought this was unnecessary and in poor taste. The boys section had the same information about shaving, etc but NO negative remarks about boys growing hair. Growing hair is normal for all teens, it doesn’t need to be shamed like this. There were a few other things that didn’t sit right with me or were somewhat contrary to the lessons I’m trying to teach.

Helps to train Autistic kidd
Great book for parents or teachers to use with kids to train them to have good hygiene habits. I bought this as a training aid for my 11 yr. Old twin grandchildren that are Autistic. It takes longer with them, but this will help.

Can I be sued ?
I bought this for my partner's daughter & her boyfriend. They are both 18 & I know the girl has never been very good with keeping clean, even her dentist has reported her to social services for her lack of personnel hygiene. They flit between us, his dad & her mother & when they come to us they smell like "dirty old men"! I also bought them loads of shower gel & deodorant. Two days ago I received a threatening message via facebook from his father wanting to bring a lawsuit against me for suggesting they are dirty ! The book is great but folk don't like to hear the truth. If some one told me that I am smelly I would of thanked them & done some thing about it. Be careful whom you give it to.

Informative book.
I purchased this book for my son who has learning disabilities & health problems. He has a soap & toothpaste phobia, my friends assure me that this is a boy thing, lol. I dont know that it's made much of a difference as we still have the teeth cleaning fight but I continue to be patient in the hope that it gets through to him eventually. Personally, I found it a very informative book & would recommend it.

Good Quality - lead time a bit more than anticipated
Book was delivered in good shape; correct book. The forecasted lead time to deliver was a bit too optimistic but not too much difference.
