BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN: Odessa - 1905. Enraged with the deplorable conditions on board the armored cruiser Potemkin, the ship's loyal crew contemplates the unthinkable - mutiny. Seizing control of the Potemkin and raising the red flag of revolution, the sailors' revolt becomes the rallying point for a Russian populace ground under the boot heels of the Czar's Cossacks. When ruthless White Russian cavalry arrives to crush the rebellion on the sandstone Odessa Steps, the most famous and most quoted film sequence in cinema history is born. SPECIAL FEATURES: "Tracing Battleship Potemkin, "a 42-minute documentary on the making and restoration of the film, the restored film with newly-translated English intertitles, the restored film with original Russian intertitles (and optional English subtitles), the original 1926 Edmund Meisel score, performed by the Deutsche's Film orchestra (presented in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1), Photo galleries STRIKE: The first feature film by the director of Battleship Potemkin, Sergei Eisenstein's STRIKE is a visual tour-de-force that employs dynamic editing and experimental camerawork to dramatize the saga of a bitterly-fought factory strike in 1903. Often compared to Citizen Kane in terms of audacious directorial debuts, STRIKE embodies the revolutionary spirit of the Soviet people of the 1920s, cresting the waves of artistic and political idealism. This edition of STRIKE was mastered in HD from a 35mm film element restored by the Cinematheque de Toulouse, with a newly-recorded score by the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra, adapted largely from the works of traditional Russian composers. SPECIAL FEATURES: GLUMOV'S DIARY (1923, 4 min.) for years considered lost, Eisenstein's first film is a playful experimental short made for his stage production of Alexander Ostrovsky's Enough Stupidity in Every Wise Man, EISENSTEIN AND THE REVOLUTIONARY SPIRIT (2008, 37 min.) Film historian Natacha Laurent places Eisenstein's work in the context of the Communist Revolution and contemporary Soviet filmmaking.

Orson Wells loved Sergei Eisenstein movies and so will you!
This double bluray set includes "The Battleship Potemkin" and "Strike" at a cheaper price than buying " Battleship Potemkin" alone.Orson Wells was influenced by these movies and "Citizen Kane" has many "ideas" redone for it's visuals.Sergei Eisenstein was a true artist and really has influenced many directors style. If you like German impressionisic early cinema, you'll love this.If you are a film student, you'll learn alot from viewing these great old movies.

Two rare fine-art pieces from the early days of film.
You have to see it to believe it. Outstanding restoration on two silent gems by Sergei Eisenstein, the great Soviet director. It's believed that Senator Joe McCarthy was pychologically-terrified by Eisenstein and his films up until his dying day (which, by the way, came about two BEFORE Eistenstein's equally same early death; Eisenstein of a heart attack while directing a film at 50, and McCarthy of suspected alcoholism at 48.)Enjoy both films, which ultimately celebrate the themes of labor and worker's rights.

I couldn't watch it without Blu-ray
I am not able to watch the double set. I do not have Blu-ray. I am sorry that there was a miscommunication in ordering. It is great historic cinema. I hope to see it sometime later on.

Fantastic quality blu ray picture
Fantastic quality blu ray picture. 5 stars for Battleship Potemkin, which has been restored with scenes I had not seen before in previous versions, and the Odessa steps scenes are especially good, really loved seeing it again. 3 stars for Strike, Eisenstein's first feature ... I was less impressed with it, it's a bit repetitive, but very imaginative and stylish in places. Well worth getting the set, especially for the first class version of Potemkin.

Eisenstein
What can a person say about the work of Eisenstein? Visually significant and milestones in cinematic history from a genius director in his prime! Quality of discs is excellent bearing in mind these films are from the silent era and have been digitized! Great Stuff!!!!
