The Anglo Concertina Absolute Beginners: Detailed Tuition for Playing Traditional Music on the Anglo Concertina

An excellent book for absolute beginners, no need to read music as it has a notation system . You are led from twinkle little star to complex tunes step by step so you can go at your own pace. Even the simple tunes are good and fun to play. At first sight this book seems thin but there is a great deal in it. Highly recommended by a complete beginner. Also if you dont read music buy the cd to go with it so you will know how the tunes should sound.

A book is worth a dozen videos
The concertina is an instrument which does not lend itself well to video instructions. You cannot see finger tips on buttons clearly, no matter how good the photographic expertise. And video instructions must be augmented, clarified, by dots on diagrams to ensure unambiguous clarity. So why not cut to a top class book. Pages four and five give all the notes clearly which exist on the Anglo. No messing. By following the book page by page methodically, success is likely if not actually assured. The tablature system is straightforward. Using this book a chimpanzee could learn to play the Anglo Concertina.

Easy to read
Nicely written book. I bought this for an eighty year old lady who is determined to play the concertina. Thanks to this book, she is beginning to grasp the rudiments. Thank you.

It is a great beginners book for someone who doesn't read music already
Am getting on really well with this book. It is a great beginners book for someone who doesn't read music already. The tablature is helpful but not overpowering so I am still learning the notes. Lots of good tunes and it says you can get a soundtrack too but I have not looked into that yet. I have a scarlatti 20 key Anglo and even later in the book when it moves onto 30 key tunes they show you how to keep going with 20 by showing alternatives. It is much easier to get on with than the free book on concertina. com that I started out on. The tablature alone has brought me on leaps and bounds because if I get a blank on a note I can glance at the tab not have to go looking back through pages. Good tips to avoid bad habits and how to hold it. Recommended.
