Automator for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard: Visual QuickStart Guide 1st Edition, Kindle Edition

Overall, I though the book was good. I read the Kindle version, and one thing I didn't like was that the caption was *above* the figure/picture; I've never seen it that way. I'm not sure how it appears in the print versionThe author explains how to choose a menu option in the text, and then shows how the menus look via figures and captions. This repeated throughout the book, which I though was unnecessary.This book was written for OS X Snow Leopard (with some references to Tiger). I have OS X Yosemite, and of course, El Capitan is available, but I couldn't find any books which were more recent. I'm not sure if or how much Automator has changed in the later OSs.

Automator is a wonderful tool built into OS X, and I think most people skip right over it. It is unfortunately, not an incredibly intuitive program, and the QuickStart Guide is very helpful. It gives a few examples of how it can be used and that would be my only think keeping from giving it a full five stars is that it could use a few more real life day to day examples of how Automator might be used. I recommend this.

The problem is not with this book, although it is fairly superficial.The problem is with Automator. Apple upgraded it in Snow Leopard, and obsoleted many "actions," which have not been replaced.I've built a few, and finally just gave up, and went back to the GUI. Point and click, point and click. Plan your manual workflow, and you can save more time than you will save messing around with Automator.

Really explains Automator. It's not the latest version of Automator and there are a few differences, but not enough to make you regret buying it. Maybe an updated version will come out before too long. I just get the impression few Mac users use Automator. That's too bad because with a little thought about how you use your computer and this book, you can make your computer life easier and more efficient.

I love this book- Automator has very limited resources, this book make sure you know most of the functions.- it has resource for you to download and test- it has example for you to study.I hope Ben have more actions to release in the future, so we all can benefit. I especially like the set safari function.

Wish there was an update for this, but it is pretty straightforward. Hope that the authors updates the material soon.

Easy and informative read. I would recommend for new users of Automator. It was very helpful in streamlining many of my processes.

Good text. Easy to follow. Good place to begin learning Automator.

You would be better off by reading the help doc included in the app itself, this book did not include anything new, online there's more information.

mac OS直属のアプリとしてかなり昔からあったが、私もこれまでほとんど利用してこなかった。少し使ってみると、大変便利。そして、他のレビューにもあるように、系統的な解説があるのはこの本だけ。ネットで検索すれば種々のワークフローなどを個別に見つけることができるだろうが、この本を手元において参照し徐々にその仕組みを理解していけば、さらに便利な機能を発見・自ら構築できるようになっていくはず。

オートメーターに関して専門に書かれた唯一の本だと思います。紙に印刷されたものを手元においておく安心感が必要な方は買うしか無いです。

入手しにくいものが、即納で助かりました。Automatorの唯一の参考書です。
