Useful to set device configuration if you have a Wink hub. Useless otherwise.
If you really like to tweak all the settings of your zwave devices, you probably bought a SmartThings hub. If you, like me, assumed you'd be happy with the manufacturer's defaults and wanted easy installation, you bought a Wink Hub. And then found that one setting on that one device that you wanted to change. So, yes. This remote effectively allows you to change the settings on a Zwave device in your network. That's the only reason I bought it, and it accomplished its purpose. But I figured, hey, I have a remote, I should use it! But it's just not very user friendly. I guess that's why I'm a Wink guy and not a SmartThings guy?The good: it served the singular purpose I bought it for, although it took some digging to figure out how.The bad: laborious setup and poor UI. - The product did not ship with instructions. I had to hit google to find out how to program it. Saved a few trees I guess. - One would assume using this as a secondary controller is a common use case. It's buried deep down in the instructions. - I was, after way too much searching, able to add all the "switches" and "dimmers" in my z wave network by registering the device as a secondary controller. But it failed to find my thermostat or remote temperature sensors, or my wink relay-wired switch. It might be possible but it's not worth my time to figure out why. - Naming devices in the network on the remote is a laborious chore involving scrolling through every letter of the alphabet (case sensitive, symbols included) using the arrow keys. Remember how you set your initials on high scores in 1980's video games? Yeah, it's like that. But much more than 3 characters. - Given the availability of a much friendlier smartphone UI for Wink (and probably other zwave products) the remote probably isn't the best thing to plan to use as your primary scene-setter. If it's handy it might save a few seconds (but likely never pay back the time investment to initially program the thing) but will probably get lost the way of my TV remotes and end up unused. In sum... if you have a nice user-friendly UI like Wink that can't alter device configurations and need a device to do that... this will do the trick at a pretty steep price tag. But that's a lot to pay for a remote that otherwise is much harder to use than just about any other alternative.

Still not sure about this remote...I have a Vera Lite and figured it would be nice to be able to control some of my zwave devices without logging onto a phone of computer..I the Instructions are not user friendly..Not everyone is so computer smart...So my vera lite is the primary controller and the Remotec is the Secondary controller. When i added it to the vera lite it scanned 12 devices but i only see three switches..I am undecided about this item..Seems like you can do a lot more with it if using as a primary controller...For all i know this remote will do everything i need it to but figuring it out it the hard part...Well made and very complex

Does not do timed events - no internal clock
It is a pretty good controller, IF you don't need it to do timed events. The menus are very good and it is easy to use and works - as far as it goes. The sales material claims it will do timed events but after poking around the menus and searching their PDF manual, there are only 3 references to the word "timed" and they are pretty much as follows:Under "Scenes":“A collection of Z‐Wave devices configured to turn to a specific level, setting, mode, or perform an operation. Scenes are usually activated by a controller, timed event, or specific conditions.”This unit lacks a time-of-day clock so it is incapable of performing timed events without an external device to trigger the event(s). I wanted something like the GE 45601 Z-Wave hand-held remote but something that was easier to use. I spent several hours with this device before finally deciding that it is not for me.

Worked with alarm.com very happy
Worked as expected and Worked with alarm.com. I bought this to configure another zwave device that required specific parameters to be programmed (zxt-120) too my surprise after searching many months for a secondary controller that would work with alarm.com this was it. The alarm.com rep told me you could not use a secondary controller they obviously had no clue. Now I don't know the specifics but I do know both ge and aeon labs controllers did not work. This has an easy to use interface and an lcd screen with menu options. It does come shipped in plain oem packaging with no instructions. You can find them on Google. I was able to add the controller as a regular zwave device and then have it learn from the panel. It also can scan nearby zwave devices.

Very useful as a secondary controller with the Wink hub.
This z-wave remote is extremely useful to use as a secondary controller if you have a Wink hub. This is because the Wink hub doesn't permit sending command class configuration to various z-wave devices such as thermostats that are not directly supported by Wink. Using the z-wave remote as a secondary controller, I could configure various parameters with z-wave devices and get them to function the way I want with the Wink hub.

Works with Veralite but takes time to set up
Finally got this working with my Veralite. While I can't seem to get it to control my locks through vera everything else seems to work. Had to setup scenes manually but it was pretty easy to do. This is not easy to setup but once its setup it works well.

Might work for some people but I have a limited knowledge of Z-Wave and my wink Hub and it would not link up even after following multiple instructions on how to pair it and then unpair it and then pair it again. Returned it and got my money back

Awesome little piece of technology to configure zwave parameters where your primary controller won't allow you. Used this with a 2gig panel with securenet remote access to configure a mini split ac unit for remote access. Took a little while read the complete manual to fully understand the menus but after that I had everything up and running in ten minutes.
