Joshua (Ignatius Catholic Study Bible)

What I like most about this book was the extensive use of commentary from the Early Church Fathers such as Origin, Cyril of Jerusalem, Augustine, Lactanius, etc;. The people that were closest to the Apostles' teachings. Further, the book has an extensive discussion of the herem (heb), the complete destruction of people, cattle, and homes of the Canaanite populations. These disturbing incidences in the Old Testament are at the very least unsettling to a modern reader but have an anagogical purpose which, in my view, is the proper way to understand their meaning.

It comments what the authors think are the relevant texts of each chapter. The commentaries are interesting, enlightening and easy to grasp. I enjoyed it and it helped me in my reading of 5e Book of Joshua, though I would have preferred a verse by verse commentary. I recommend it. It is written by biblical experts and is coherent with the teachings of the Catholic Church, which is the one that compiled the Bible in the first place.Anyone who wants to understand the Book of Joshua will find this book very useful.

I have several of these commentaries and they are readable, understandable, and knowledgeable.

I got what I expected and I am fully satisfied.
