Pink Mountaintops : Get Back

This is one of my favorite bands and I must admit this release has to be my favorite so far.

4th release from band out of Vancouver, Canada led by Stephen McBean of Black Mountain, Blood Meridian. PM play hypnotic, psychedelic prog/glam rock with its nose buried deep in the driving originality of experimental, but accessible, songcraft surprise. McBean sings with an addictive & believable rock star urgency a la Morrissey/Nikki Sudden/Mick Karn/Mick Ralphs, while a wall of instruments soars with a melody-blistered power in a sparkly, rootsy sheen. Guests include members from Dinosaur Jr., Brian Jonestown Massacre, Dead Meadow, Darker My Love, Delta 72, Clawhammer, Giant Drag. “Get Back” recalls a whole lot of diverse & killer bands, such as: Secret Machines, Sleepy Sun, Blank Realm, Psychedelic Furs, Mott the Hoople, Jazzateers, Can, The Besnard Lakes, Crocodiles, The Stratford 4, Rolling Stones, Dandy Warhols, etc. There is a difficult-to-describe magical quality to these songs that connects to the heart & spirit of rock ‘n’ roll, a sense that it’s being lived right in front of your ears, in all of its explosively loveable & listenable, celebratory, mind-expanding glory. Pink Mountaintops are one of best bands in the game right now. With the exception of one song (“North Hollywood Microwave”, which has an ill-advised rap element) this album is consistently brilliant and recommended.
