The uncommon Arctic fox is a real survivor!
Maarten Loonen, an Arctic biologist, travels from his home in the Netherlands to study the Arctic fox. He finds them to be a very cool and fascinating animal and has learned a lot about them. When he goes to the Arctic he stays in Ny-Ålesund, Norway, the "northernmost town in the world."He has learned many things about the Arctic fox. In the summer he captures them, names them, weighs and tags them on their ears. He does this so he can learn how much they grow and where they have traveled. He has learned about what they eat, how many cubs are in a litter, their habitat and many more things. Maarten says that he is "always discovering how smart and tough these foxes are." One time an Arctic fox was observed traveling more than 1,400 miles in search of food. They are truly amazing creatures! This is an excellent book to learn about one of the more uncommon and resilient Arctic animals. Inside there are numerous photographs, a map designating their habitat, a page of Arctic fox facts, one dedicated to the reindeer and polar bear, a glossary and more. Difficult or unusual words in the text are printed in bold and are in the glossary. The book is very well done and the young animal lover will enjoy the read and pore over the wonderful photographs.
