Return to Atlantis: A Novel

Atlantis "Unchained"
The protagonists in this story are sort of a combination of Jack Reacher, Dirk Pitt and Lara Croft. Seems they manage to extricate themselves from any and all situations basically unscathed. Typical hero/heroine material. It is a fast paced story that moves across the globe from one hot seat to another. The premise of the story involves power emitted from artifacts that were made from a meteor that brought the first DNA to earth to create life. It has a science fiction feel to it while bringing the elements of a modern day thriller to it as Nina and Eddie battle the combined monetary forces of a large conglomerate who wants to not only control the current world, but genetically alter our future world so that freedom is not a prerequisite for mankind. Gives you plenty of opportunities to think it is not so "unrealistic" and could happen. It was a fun read. If you are a Clive Cussler fan, I think you'd especially enjoy the story.

Its been getting predictable.
I love reading Andry McDermott's books for the sheer thrill ride he takes us on.But the last two books have been getting a little predictable.. maybe it is because this is the first time I read two books back to back. But the action sequences have been yawn worthy. It is the same scene EVERY single time. Somehow the bad guys catch up to Eddie and Nina. They catch them in a bad situation and for some reason they refuse to kill either of them, rather want to talk until Eddie figures out a miracle and get away. Then he comes back and kills every single one of the bad guys. Bullets graze him, knifes hit non vital spots, blood loss doesn't affect him.In the process Eddie always gets severely injured, but in minutes he is back to fighting like nothing happened.I hope Andy tries to add some elements to his storytelling, otherwise I think I need to find another author to feed my action cravings.

Return to Atlantis
I have been anxiously awaiting for the release of this book. I have read all the previous books and thought that these are great books with possibilities for becoming screen blockbusters. Enough of speculating on these books, I finished this book and found that it , just like the preceding books, extremely hard to put down. Starting with Eddie in Africa and the situation he got into, to his solving the local rebel's problem of a warped political leader with a machete. I don't want to give away the many plots in the book, but reading this book can lead to sleepless nights turning the pages from chapter to chapter. All the old villains are present with introductions to new "bad guys".My only concern now is how Andy McDermott will top this one? I hope he has new adventures for Eddie Chase and his red-haired wife, Nina Wilde. Can't wait for the next novel.

Brains and braun
Very easy to read and sometimes you get some actual factual history. But I would confirm your knowledge by checking the internet or see if any comments are made by the author at the end of the book. The action is fast so put on your seat belts. This is an adult book. The language can be colorful but does add to the character of the plot. I always love it when a spin is added to any myth to try to make the myth alive and factual. Just remember most myths are based on some past actual outcomes. The Ebla tablets are showing that their were some actual occurrences in the past that are bringing to light some explanations that have been hard to prove.

Decent thriller
This would make a great beach read. Fast paced, no holds barred action. Of course you need to suspend credibility as the amount of abuse that the characters sustain would land them in the hospital for a long stay by about the second chapter at least. Given the genre if you just relax and don't over think it you'll enjoy the book. The characters do have more than one dimension and the evil guys are truly bad. I hadn't read the preceding books in the series and will probably get some of them. Perhaps when the ice melts off the lake and the beach beckons.

Move Over Indiana Jones
I read a half dozen or so of the previous books in this series and this one didn't disappoint. Great adventure/action book. If anything the hero and heroin getting into trouble became a little too predictable. I would be reading along and say to myself, "It's been a few pages since they got into trouble." And sure enough on the next page was a new attack or threat.Great read.

Business as usual!
I have read all of the Nina Wilde/Eddie Chase novels. I would recommend all of them. They are Amazing!!! They are incredibly imaginative and well written. Now that I've said that, I will also say that they are fairly far-fetched! If you enjoy books that keep moving at a very rapid pace, you will love these books. Just don't expect a story that is believable...one man with one gun can't really take on any army on Earth single-handedly, but if you forget about that fact while you are reading these books, you will be in for an awesome journey!

Good idea, but could have been better
This story promises adventure and lost civilizations. Sounds great - the story line itself is well-done. However, the main characters continually drop the F-bomb and other choice words to the point that it ruins the dialogue. I really don't mind the occasional curse word here and there - but this author takes it to the extreme. It made the characters appear ridiculous. As a device for characterization, it failed - unless the author wanted one of the main characters to sound like a middle-school aged boy trying to impress a group of raunchy truck drivers.I love adventure stories but I'll pass on any more books by this author.

Temple Of The Far Fetched !!!
Well the first books in the series started off brilliantly now I think Andy McDermott is getting way ahead of himself with how extravagant the action scenes are and this book has to top it off (For now as there's another seven to go) For Example : Going down in an elevator to a depth what seemed to go to the Center of the earth's core to a secret hidden military government bunker then to evade capture driving a tank to sky diving without a parachute and chasing an overweight bad guy through the underground tunnels of the Vatican to a high rise tower being blown up by a helicopter gunship the list goes on.Eddie and Nina's vomit worthy flirty talk and the petty arguments with a lot of the "F" word used is getting tediously predictive too and unnecessarily needed. Also the return of bad guy's that just won't die even if they've been in an exploding car it amazes me. I hope The Valhalla Prophecy deems better.

Misleading Title
I purchased this book for my husband assuming by the title RETURN to Atlantis that it was a follow on the the previous book Temple of the Gods. Imagine the dismay on finding it was exactly the same book under a different title. I realise now that one was the UK version and one the US version but I feel it is wrong and downright unethical not to make this clear when the book is offered for sale. I was offered the chance to return it and apply for a refund but to do so would have cost me as much in postage as I had already paid for the book and I considered I had wasted enough money on it.

Smoothly-plotted book - one of mcdermott's best
Excellent action/adventure with an emphasis on action and we're talking about big, OTT style action akin to the most OTT hollywood action film ever. Matter of fact, reading this book is a good replacement to watching an action film as this book satisfies in the same way. It's very visual, has lots of twists and turn, great humorous dialogue, and the plot, more than the other Wilde and Chase adventures, is smooth like butter, and it's well-researched. This book deserves to be a best seller. Andy makes the book exciting. I particular like the scene with the Sharkdozer underneath the waters.Rex Grainger - the author of Elixir Stone

Easy holiday or indeed lockdown reading.
Secondhand book. Came in good condition and on time. Story line much the same as all the others in the series, perhaps a little grittier ! Not a thought provoking read but then it was never meant to be and for the lockdown or as a holiday read perfect.

Action packed book
Another action packed book form wilde/chase series will please all fans, as we get a bit of mystery, bit of destruction (OK, a lot of destruction :) ) and research archeologyas usual, book can be read as stand alone book, but I would suggest to start reading from beginning of the series as it will reward you with better understanding of main characters
