The Underbelly of the Star Wars Universe
This novel features the well-known bounty hunter characters of Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back in an adventure that occurs alongside the events of the original trilogy. The author focuses on a plot hatched by Prince Xizor (of Shadows of the Empire) to undermine the Bounty Hunters' Guild in order gain leverage over Palpatine and Lord Vader. For those curious about the further adventures of the bounty hunter characters, this book will be a real treat. Jeter is a fine writer who takes great care to develop each of the bounty hunter characters -- Zuckuss, 4-LOM, Dengar, Bossk, and others -- are all interesting and play important roles in the story. Jeter also introduces some of his own characters into the mix, and they are at home in the dark, shadowy universe of the Star Wars bounty hunters.I suggest beginning with the first book in the series before this one if you can. There are many things introduced in the first novel that are important to a thorough understanding of this novel.Jeter's prose is terrific. He is one of my favorite of the authors that I've been introduced to through reading the Star Wars expanded universe novels. I know that I will finish this trilogy, and I will seek out more of his work in the future.

Worth every penny.
An excellent book. This book continues the almost perfect depiction of Boba Fett as an iceberg-cold individual. Ordinarily, the writing would be over-the-top, but Mr. Jeter keeps it realistic.Characters are introduced with care, and not just throwaway units. Each is given a meticulous outline, parsed for value, and utilized in the capacity for which they were designed. Overall, it's a story of a single man fighting to survive a conflict between superpowers, which seek to either destroy him, or use him for his unique skills -- which is simultaneously ridiculous on the surface, and oh-so-typical of massive organizations.Wish there were more Fett books like this outside of the Trilogy.

a bounty hunter adventure added to Star Wars universe
This was a good Star Wars story for those who love the bounty hunters and are fans or Boba Fett. The story line is good and it's an interesting look into the gap world of the bounty hunters. The writing isn't bad, although it occasionally tried too hard to add in "star wars universe" feeling terms that get over used, and make for some unnecessary repetitiveness. Overall a decent read.

Very much in the vein of the first book
The saga of The Bounty Hunter Wars continues in K.W Jeter's Slave Ship, the second book in the trilogy. It is very much like the first volume, The Mandalorian Armor, in that the story is split between the Episode IV and Episode VI timeframes, the characters talk in very lengthy monologues, and the descriptions tend to be repeated ad infinitum. The storyline proceeds with Boba Fett rebuilding himself and his schemes as the Rebels mass for a final attack on the Death Star II at Endor. Simultaneously, we read flashbacks continuing the older story of the Bounty Hunter Wars and how Fett was able to destroy the old Bounty Hunter's Guild. Xizor's schemes to eventually take on Darth Vader and the Emperor are central to the plotline, and we spend more time with Kuat of Kuat, although his agenda and importance remain unclear. The most entertaining segment of Slave Ship is set in the Episode IV timeframe and depicts Boba Fett teaming up with Bossk to capture the rogue stormtrooper Voss'on't (Jeter really has a thing for apostrophes!). The Emperor has offered an obscenely large bounty for Voss'on't, and even though he smells a rat, Fett still wants the cash. Like the Shell Hutts flashback tale in the first book, this flashback to an old bounty hunt provides the best action of a very talky novel. One problem that comes to light as I proceed through this trilogy is the essential deification of Boba Fett and corresponding dumbing-down of all his peers. Bossk is always trying to get the best of his archrival Fett, but no matter how hard he tries, he can't stay ahead of Fett's complete perfection in all things bounty-hunting. Dengar is a bumbling idiot who doesn't seem to be able to handle anything well, IG-88 is powerful but easily tricked, and Zuckuss seems like a naive kid playing at war. If Fett was really so all-powerful, how does a blind man with a stick manage to take him out in Return of the Jedi? Granted, random things can happen even to the best, but it doesn't even seem to bother Fett that a nearly BLIND Han Solo could defeat him with no problem. Fett's a cool-looking character and a fun one to collect, but the EU goes overboard in making him something Lucas did not seem to have in mind.Overall, Slave Ship is very much like the first book, and I continue to have the feeling this trilogy should have been condensed into one book.

Fett me entertain you...
Mando”s Mandalorian predecessor makes cats look frankly short on lives... Jeter embues the galaxy”s deadliest with the kind of skills, chops and props that have made him such a fan favourite. Everybody loves a truly great anti-hero, and BF is simply rendered as bad-ass AF. Get involved, if you”be ever contemplated actually obtaining a Wookiee braid the hard way, like as in person.

Parole, parole, parole

An manchen Stellen fehlte mir was... Kann man ruhig lesen, wenn man Englisch kann ^^! Boba ist ein wahrer BAD-ASS. Coole Socke halt. Aber der Name Boba ist echt eine Strafe... das arme Kind...
