Chants Of India

Beautiful CD with sacred chantings.
I first got a cassette recording of this in 1997 and the CD of this a few years later and had it until it was lost in 2007. These are some of the first Hindu chants I learned after I converted to Hinduism in 1997.

A Masterpiece
Ravi Shankar is perhaps the best known artist from the East in the West, and there are reasons far beyond his association with George Harrison{though that contributed hugely to his commercial ability} Yehudi Menuihin recorded with him early, and saw his genius. The concert for the bangladesh propelled him into the forefront, and he has continued to surprise with his explorations. this recording is a flat out masterpiece. Drawn from Vedic texts and the Upanishads, these are prayers of hope, fulfillment, longing and pure bliss. The opening, the intoning of the sacred sylable OM is awesome, and there is simply not a weak cut on this recording. PRABHUJEE, the 15th tarck is ,for me, the most haunting{the liner notes include translations for those of us not fluid in sanskrit nor hindi}"O MASTER<SHOW SOME COMPASSION ON ME/PLEASE COME AND DWELL IN MY HEAR/BECAUSE WITHOUT YOU IT IS PAINFULLY LONELY/FILL THIS EMPTY POT WITH THE NECTAR OF LOVE/..." sung, chanted to perfection, this is simply a profound religious expierence. THE HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!

For fans of God and Ravi Shankar
This is a wonderful spiritual album and will delight fans of Ravi Shankar sitar music. They are chants to God in the dialect of India but may be followed along in Sanscrit as well as in native tongue and also in English using the enclosed pamphlet found with the CD. I find the music and chanting wonderful to meditate with or to use as background to work around the home. You will not be disappointed with this album if you love God and if you love the music of Ravi Shankar! George Harrison produced this album and so makes it more special with the spiritual vibrations of this former Beatles member. Namaste

Beautiful!
I LOVE this CD! I can never find music from India where I live so when I'm able to get something good online it's always a big treat. I use this CD on a regular basis for meditation or just to help me calm my nerves and mind in between clients. I even use it when I do my paperwork and it seems to help me work. I recommend this item for those who are fans of Indian chants.

Pleasing to my ears and heart
The point of this cd, to me, is that it is *chant.* It is primarily vocal music, rather repetitive but tuneful, and it is designed to be sung by ordinary people, not necessarily trained voices. It is not sitar or ragas. I am not Hindu or a specialist in music of any kind, but I find it pleasing to listen to--it is exotic without being overly weird, it is relaxing without being soporific, and I enjoy it while driving. I don't know that it will bring about enlightenment, but it lightens my day.

Enchanting Chants
"Chants of India," Ravi Shankar, produced by George Harrison. A perfect partnership. Having worn out the "Chants" tape I purchased many years ago, I replaced it recently with a DVD found on Amazon. The chanters still hit all the right notes with me. Enticing and atmospheric, their sounds remind of my many visits to India, where I've heard the real thing. Here's a chant for you: "Om Shanti Om." Namaste.

Enchanting Montage
A collection of spiritual gems set to music in Ravi Shankar's signature style. The music grows and grows on you with each hearing. Interestingly, as you ruminate on the meaning of the chants, you suddenly want to read the whole piece from which extracts are presented in this collection - which is precisely what the aim of putting this together was. Well, it worked with me!I saw Ravi Shankar as a young college student on a tour to our college promoting culture and music among youth - he is still at it with gusto, inspiration and sublime creativity.

outstanding service
Bollywood deserves 100 stares for I t's service in replacing my CD . I owe them an apology for my misplacing the original in my cluttered, soon to be empty, apartment. The 'Chants Of India' is an excellent CD, in Excellent condition. I look forward to doing business with them again in the near future

how fantastic Brahma, and Vishnu
a must have, for every admirer of George Harrison, as this was his project, following the beatles anthology. not too sure if I appreciate the limited lyrical contact. how many times, and in how many ways, can you say, how fantastic Brahma, and Vishnu, are. And, did Brahma get the ball rolling, just so, thousands of year later, people can still say how grateful they are, for him, getting the ball rolling. I've listened to the cd, many times, it's very atmospheric, but I really struggle with the words. mind you, what do I know. i'm a vegetarian atheist. dino, warks

Puntuali?
Bravi tutti.
