Healthy skeptic turned true believer.
I went into this purchase like I go into anything, very skeptical. Look let's be honest, formatting a paper is not rocket science. It does not require much practice to get the hang of it either. I have been writing APA format for several years now and I have never been docked points for format issues. With all this said though, I would still buy this software. Sure you can easily format a paper, but you can also just as easily turn the channel on your tv manually as opposed to using the remote. The context is in the ease of use and the time it saves. This software is very easy to use and walks you through any questions you may run into. Once you install the software it automatically creates an add-in function to Word, which integrates very nicely. This software also gives you ease of mind. Instead of proof reading your work for APA format errors you can instead focus on proper grammar and sentence flow. This easily shaves off about 30 minutes to an hour of assignment time when you consider initial formatting and proof reading formatting (not to mention the headaches of referencing). This product delivers. The proof is in the pudding. The rating on this product sits at a very high score and it is very well deserved. I would recommend this software to freshmen and upperclassmen in a heart beat. These guys really did a good job.Quick note: I notice that there is a couple lower scores on this review, but after reading them I am forced to believe that it is probably due to human error on their part. It seems that one of their customer reps has done a pretty thorough job trying to rectify the problem but there has been zero reply from the person complaining. Seems to me if I had a real problem I might try to have customer service resolve the issue. It's like they just left quick a complaint but didn't care enough to see if it was actually the software or their own error. The Perrla rep seemed confident enough to keep trying to help, I can only assume that the person complaining was probably in the wrong. With a 4.8 rating, again, the evidence seems to be stacked in Perrla's corner.

Got me the "A" for paper
Incredible software. I was losing points for citing when the content was excellent so I bought Perrla. What a difference! I use about 16-20 cites per 4 page paper for my third year nursing class in APA style with a paper a week. It is so gratifying to not lose significant points for APA style 6th edition when a passing grade is an 82% or B- for my college major. Thanks Perrla!Oh yes, I bought the hard copy version, installed with no problem and was writing my paper within minutes of installation. However, I did carefully watch those videos on their site first when I test drove their online download version, and liked it so much I promptly bought the hard copy. Just wish I had it earlier.I got 100% for the first paper I used for PERRLA, unlike the last paper without PERRLA that had about 12 citations/references). It is nice to get points for your thoughts and not have to worry about all those cites. I can't stand using the APA style 6th edition, but apparently this is what a number of colleges require you to write in. Yecch.Just have to be careful to not leave spaces after your entries or when you double check your references, you will see spaces where there shouldn't be and don't add commas or punctuation if the box that pops up on that particular reference says to not use any punctuation.Really, I wish I used it from the beginning, now I am trying to catch up on all the points I lost to get that "A" for the class.

Worth about half what I paid
From the description Peerla sounded like the answer to my APA woes and I eagerly installed it when it arrived. It does have step by step forms that generate an APA reference at the end, but that's about the only thing that it does satisfactorily. You must start your document as a Perrla document. I assumed that as a Word Add-in, as the product was described, it would run on any Word document, even one I had created before, but I didn't find a way to do that short of a hack with cut and paste. You can't export references, someone else asked about this back in 2011 and the answer from Liz Huber of Perrla was that they had thought about having an export feature, but "do not look for it in the near future." It looks like it won't be available in the far future either Yes, you can hack it and put references in an empty Perrla doc and then cut and paste them elsewhere, but that's not really the point.Every time you create a Perrla document it pops up a hokey window that loads this and that and checks for connectivity, it gets annoying very quickly.Perrla is worth about 10$-$15 for what it does. It is probably suitable for a high school or the bachelors level in college. Come masters level it starts getting dubious. At the doctoral level, it just doesn't make the grade except as a little utility for creating an APA reference. Mendeley has its problems too, but it has many more features than Peerla, for instance export ability, and it's free for the first two GB.Save your money, I wish I had.

gradeschool like manner of treating a masters level student
BUY THIS IF YOU ARE WRITING APA PAPERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could end there, but I'll explain. I'm in an online masters program and everything is APA. There is already an extreme amount of paper writing involved, so why make life more difficult trying to figure out APA format? It's questionable as is that professors use formatting as a reason to dock points of papers. It's a childish, gradeschool like manner of treating a masters level student. Honestly, I believe it's a cop out for professors to spend less time actually reading the papers and grading for content and quality. So don't play the game and get this product. It basically attaches to your Word program and does all the formatting for you. And it WORKS! I have almost zero deductions for APA formatting, and if I do, it's usually because I put the wrong info into the program. It's user friendly also. This company put alot of thought into their product.
