This is not Christian fiction, and yes, Christians have explicit sex too.
This is a Western romance featuring Christian people. The author states in the description that the sex scenes are explicit, so I don't know why people who don't want to read these kinds of stories, read this one and then give it low rating. The author didn't leave the explicit sex out of this book, and she was able to create a believable growing bond between Kristina and Cody, as far as the sex is concerned. This story shows the love and concern and pulling for one another that Christian people can have. While Cody is a minister, the story is not preachy or OTT religious. But it is filled with characters who worship God and call on Him when they need him. The romance between Kristina and Cody is developed in a way that shows the two of them willing to do what is necessary to have a lasting relationship.I found the way the problems of one of the upcoming couples was spotlighted in this story to be a minor distraction. I also would have liked a little more closure at the end. But there is a goodness and a quality about this story that kept me reading it. The people were just likable and the setting depicted in ways that make you feel like you are there. The author has some nice touches that help the novel to rise above the usual stereotypes.

Sex 101 manual disguised as a sweet love story. Extremely disappointed.
Well, I thought I was getting a sweet romance story. Wrong. I had NO idea I was about to be exposed to a Sex 101 instruction manual. Would not finish.

he had gotten off to a bad start with Kristina Heitschmidt
Cody Williams had come all the way from the warm weather of Galveston TX. to the freezing cold of Garden City KS. to assume the position of Pastor of a church that had been without a pastor for the last three years. Unintentionally, he had gotten off to a bad start with Kristina Heitschmidt, the choir director and organist for the church. She had a lot off freckles and wasn't considered pretty, and had resoled herself to a future life of spinsterhood even though she was only 23 years old. The only thing of importance to her was her music, and she didn't want anyone messing with it. Cody had a lot of opinions about what was women's and what was men's business the nowadays would be considered chauvinistic, but not in 1888. Musical directors in churches were usually men. Cody developed a good relationship with James, her father She also had a brother named Calvin who had headed west to seek his fortune whom they hadn't heard from in years. James was the Lay Minister, who had held the congregation together until they were finally able to get Cody to take the position. He was beginning to adjust to the fact the she was fully qualified for the position, and he wanted to get to know a lot better, They were butting heads less and less and he was beginning to find her freckles quite attractive. Then came the night of a blizzard, that was so bad that she couldn't find her way home, and ended up at the church. After pounding on the door in desperation, she passed out. After hearing the pounding, Cody opened the front door and found her on the steps half frozen. He brought her in and removed her frozen outer clothes down to, but not including her unmentionables, and lay beside her in a padded pew to keep her warm. They were discovered wrapped in each others arms , the following morning, and they knew they would have to marry. He was leaning that direction anyway and it would have been only a matter of time till he started courting her. Would he be able to convince her that it wasn't going to convince her that it wasn't just a marriage of convenience to him and that he really wanted to be married to her? could he mend all the damage he had caused earlier and restore her to her rightful place as music director in the churc?. Would she ever see her brother again? Could Cody convince her they could have a happy ever after together?

Too much explicit sex!
Although the storyline was good and the characters were interesting, i felt that the explicit sex scenes were unnecessary and, in fact, detracted from the story. Perhaps less sex and better development of the train sub-plot would have made for a more interesting read.

Don't shy away from this book
I usually shy away from books that have any thing to do with religion. However this is one of my favorite authors. And if I can read Polar Heat, I can read this. I didn't know this was about an pastor in the 1800's. This author can make anything into a wonderful read. What a beautiful love story, how tender, what patience it took and how nice to fall in love with an ordinary, freckled faced honey. He saw the beauty beneath the freckles. If only all of the wedding nights could have been like the one he made for her way back when but most men were ignorant and impatient..It would make a nice story to see her Dad find someone. Well lets see what book two has to say, so far so good.......

I enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed this sweet, steamy romance. Hero was a new pastor in heroine's church. They hit it off great until hero started making changes that personally affect heroine and failed to listen to her. He wonders what went wrong and wants to make it right again, but he gets a lot help from fate to do more than that!Personally enjoyed it because of how sensual and sweet they are together. Their relationship builds slowly to the point they were both comfortable consumating their marriage. I love books like these because sometimes it's steamier seeing characters seduce each other to the final act instead of bam getting to it. But I will say this Ms. Beaudelaire knows how to write love scenes.Really sweet story. Safe story. No OW or OM. Does have scripture but part storyline as hero is pastor, but not Christian novel. Both virgins and both so good together. Heroine made a great pastor's wife****side note: It is part of a series so unfortunately I had to read a couple of scenes of the follow up couple and the beginning of the follow up couples book at the end. Only thing I will say is I have zero tolerance for cheating and the follow up hero was such a total opposite of the hero in this book that I hated to have that love story taint this one in my eyes. So because of this I give book 4.5 rating. Because I loved first book of the story but hated that it had parts of the follow up here. Sigh, but I understood hence only taking 0.5 from the raring.******!

Beautifully written book
Historical western is my new favourite genre and High Plains Holiday didn't disappoint. I was so absorbed that I read it within a few hours. The chemistry between Kristina and Cody is tangible. I loved the way the characters had their own flaws that made them better characters in the end. The description of this Kansas town is really engaging too and the historical feel of the place and time setting really shone through. I felt as though I had gone back in time and knew the actual place. The story itself is a lovely tale. Being trapped together made our hero and heroine face up to the fires that burned between them. Fighting the attraction was hopeless. There is sex and a few harsh words but it all adds to the atmosphere of the story. There are plenty of 'extras' waiting for their own tales but they don't detract from this beautifully written book at all. I'm already looking forward to the next story based in Garden City.

Beautifully written, sexy and sweet.
I don't read a lot of historical romances, but Simone Beaudelaire has changed my mind. Everything about this book reeled me in. The characterisations were perfect. I loved Kristina--a freckled redhead who is handsome, rather than beautiful, yet her kindness and determination are enough to win the interest of the town's handsome new Pastor, Cody Williams. The story charts their rocky beginnings, where Cody interferes in Kristina's musical arrangements in church, thus earning her wrath, all the way up to the shock ending when the two of them come close to losing everything.I loved every word. The story is hot and sweet in equal measure, and made me long for a more simple time when family and a single room house were things to be thankful for. Though part of a series, this story is a stand alone and has a very fulfilling ending. Five stars from me.
