The Great Hibernation Review: Dairman's Best Book to Date! - My son and I love this book so much that I keep coming back here to order more copies to give as gifts! With great characters, humor, mystery, AND a pet sheep, THE GREAT HIBERNATION has a wide appeal! I also love that there is a great mix of both female and male characters! There's a something for every middle grade reader! Review: So much fun - I continue to buy this book for my grandchildren and their friends but I also loved reading it. Tara has done a great job writing a fun book that will appeal to all ages. I strongly recommend this captivating tale which at times, from an adult's perspective, is laugh out loud funny.

Interesting premise and commentary, but somewhat hard to believe
I really liked how creepy things got in this book, in a political way, and how we saw the progression toward oppression step by step. Yet it rarely felt heavy-handed. And Magnus was a brilliant evil genius. I liked Jean, Micah, and their friends (two-footed and four-footed). There were some really funny bits. Poor Jean just met obstacle after obstacle and all her plans kept going awry. I did, however, find a lot of plot holes or unrealistic things (unrealistic within the context of the book). So that distracted me a some from the great social commentary and the cool Lord of the Flies setup. More accurate rating: 3.5

Such an original premise and SO funny!
I love how quickly how I sunk into the fantastical world of St. Polonius. I was rooting for Jean the whole time, and what a character to root for -- a very real (and sensible!) girl, trying to keep her head on her shoulders while her whole world flies off the deep end. But the thing I love most about this book is its quirky humor -- not just with funny lines, but with one hilarious set-up after the other. And, of course, I don't want to give away the ending, but it was all kinds of satisfying.

Very Entertaining!
Bought this as Tara and I are both Dartmouth College Alumnae. The intended recipient was a 12 year old girl, like the heroine, however, must confessed I read the book before giving it and really enjoyed it. Great for Middle School (and even their parents!!!). Planning to checkout Tara's other books.

Perfectly Peculiar
4.5 stars! I was lucky to win this book at Tara's launch party for her new book, The Girl From Earth's End. I've been wanting to read The Great Hibernation since it came out (the cover really enchanted me) so I finally got the chance. I enjoyed the premise of the adults falling asleep and the kids taking over - especially that each kid had to fill in for their parent's job. Tara is really great at setting, and this snowy town by a fjord is offbeat and believable. She planted some good obstacles too to keep the tension cranked up.
