low cost for a reason
Product arrived needing the drain holes drilled out, which was some what expected via other reviews. The planter does not sit all the way down on the 6 inch railing, there is about a half an inch gap between the top of the railing and the bottom of the planter. Also the label stuck on the side was a pain to remove and parts of it are still stuck to the planter; I am going to let mother nature remove the rest of the pieces of label that are still adhered.

Make Sure You Measure First
I neglected to measure my porch railing before ordering, so this was too big to fit snugly on the rail. However, a bit of board stuck into the gap between my porch railing and the planter has solved the problem, and the planter now sits snugly over the railing. It's fairly sizable and holds about 5 six-inch plants transplanted into the planter. I really like having two of these planters on my front porch! Can't wait to sit out on the porch this summer and enjoy the flowers!

These "saddle-bag" planters are the best! Some tips for best use.....
I've used planters on my deck rails for at least two decades--always geraniums. I went through two different types of sets of metal holders, with not-good results: they sagged, many sets were required to hold a plastic planter, they rusted, which transferred to the deck rail, and they actually cut into the deck rail. Finally: Eureka, I discovered these plastic saddle-bags. They are easy to plant and water, are absolutely stable, and do no damage to the deck rail. Since the planters (because part of their volume is taken up by the deck part) hold less soil than a full planter, it's important to keep that in mind when choosing plants and as far as watering. Since I do geraniums, which are actually fairly happy being a little dry, I never watered once last summer, and probably only two or three times the previous year. However, you'll want to consider this in choosing plants consistent with your willingness to water. Finally, DO measure the width of your deck rail and make sure that you order a saddle bag that fits your deck rail: some are 2", some 4", some whatever........

Sturdy, wide & functional
I purchased three of these in the early spring and just ordered three more for the other side of my deck because I want to plant more! The original three are full of herbs (about 16 different kinds) which are thriving in these planters. I really like the low-profile, I just think it looks better. Plus, we sometimes get some strong winds and I've lost my share of planters falling off the deck. Once you fill these with dirt and plants, they aren't going to be bothered by strong winds! You can fit quite a bit in each of these planters and they all have a single drain hole on each side. One of my planters I have items that need good drainage and it was pretty easy to add some additional holes with a drill. Study plastic and I like that I'll be able to easily stack them all together at the end of the season and put away for next year.

Really stands up to wind!
Glad I read earlier reviews and they were right. Mine sat on deck railing empty for almost two weeks during some crazy Kansas spring winds and never blew off. Is spacious and now looking nice with variety of plants in it (I put four plants for now, want to make sure plenty of root room.

Just what I need
I have 3 of these planters that I used last year and wanted to add more because they were perfect for my front deck. My deck is high and it's very windy with the hot sun all afternoon. These planters stay put by just pushing them down on the rail (no bolts or braces) and hold enough water that they stay moist with watering evey other day when it's hot & dry. They have lots of drainage holes that after the rainy Spring was over I covered with stay soft modeling clay so they would hold more water during the hot Summer and pulled it off in the Fall when it started raining again.I was waiting to order more because my orginal 3 were very expensive, so when I ordered these at almost half the price and they were the same planters I was elated.

poor quality control
The quality control employees at Apollo must have been asleep when my 4 planters went by their station. There should be 6 drainage holes in the bottom of each planter. Three planters only had 3 open holes. The 4th had 4 open holes. Since I don't have a drill, I had to use the hammer and nail technique, took a fair amount of time, and elbow work( they ARE sturdy). And 1 of the planters has 2 light green areas, hopefully my plants will hang over and cover these areas. I will not order from ozbo again. The response from ozbo was "sorry for your inconvenience." Big Woop! I don't think ozbo was sorry at all!

Stable and holds a lot of soil
The smaller the window box, the thirstier it is and the more often you have to water it so your plants don't die. But these planters hold A LOT of soil, and therefore a lot of moisture and don't need too much attention. They also fit my railing perfectly and are very stable so there is no need to attach them to the railing with screws or brackets. The drain holes are on the sides allowing the water to drain without building up on the wood. I couldn't be happier. Exactly as described.
