Great pen, tactical carry tool, conversation piece
This pen is very high quality and being of Damasteel it's also quite heavy, it will almost certainly be the heaviest pen you've ever held. That said it holds and writes extremely well and of course doubles as a tactical item. I have no doubt it would break auto glass if you needed to do that, you just need to read up a bit on where you strike the window. Also it's not "sharp" and I've not had any problem with TSA. However, when you carry a tactical pen through security, I suggest you put the cap on the tactical end and carry it that way so on the xray machine, or upon visual inspection, it just looks like a ballpoint pen. Especially if you have another pen or two alongside. I only had one tactical pen ever taken by TSA since the guy claimed it was a "martial arts weapon" even though it wasn't at all even as sharp as sharpened pencil. It was a cheapie so I didn't bother to call for a supervisor, but you don't want to have this one taken. Although I travel with it all the time, my story is that it's a souvenir pen made by Benchmade out of Damascus steel, which in fact it pretty much is as well as being highly functional.

To post or not to post, that is the question
This pen body is made of damasteel, a powder sintered stainless steel in a blue tongue damascus pattern. It is significantly heavier than the aluminum and Ti versions of this pen, but it is absolutely beautiful. That is really the only reason to get this pen, in my opinion. The beauty of the damasteel. The idea of a "tactical" pen is gimmicky, any metal pen can be used tactically and marketing a pen as such just attracts the attention of the TSA (tactical pens are not expressly forbidden as of this writing but TSA agents are given broad discretion to confiscate pointy things and there have been documented examples of tactical pens being confiscated, I wouldn't risk it for a pen like this). It's a three piece pen and every piece is damasteel. They are obviously not all milled from the same piece of stock because close examination shows a lack of pattern continuity from piece to piece, but that's okay, it's still beautiful. There are plenty of better writing instruments out there, such as my Prometheus pen, and there are better "tactical" pens, such as the carbide tipped version of this one. But with the damasteel this is totally a work of art and worth it just for that reason. One star knocked because of posting the cap. You can do it, but it marked the pen body where base of the cap contacts it, leaving a shiny ring that breaks the pattern of the etching. I don't know if this is typical with this model but it happened to me and that's unfortunate. It's like having a big beautiful pearly white grin with a piece of spinach stuck between your teeth. And no toothpick.

Excellent Pen
This pen does not shout out its extraordinariness. But, upon close examination, the beauty of the layered metal is very clear. The pen is perfectly machined and finished. I feel it is worth the price; it is a unique pen in my tactical collection. Some reviewers mention a loose cap but the pen I got has a firm snap when you put it on and a firm pull when you remove it. Looks like Benchmade addressed the loose cap. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Very pleased.

Absolutely loved this pen until...
It's a nice heavy pen which is great for a "tactical pen". It is rugged on the outside. It's great looking. Everyone commented on it and it's a really, really cool pen to use.Until it broke.Something on the inside fell out or detached or...I don't know. This happened about three months ago. Now the ink cylinder hangs out. When I go to write something, the ink cylinder hangs out and then pushes back in when I bear down to write. It's annoying as....I've tried to stick rubber inside but it make the ink cylinder stick sometimes leaving it inoperable until I unscrew it and move the ink cylinder around.Other than whatever coming loose coming loose, it was a great pen. Now, it's more or less a paperweight on my desk.

Check your cap
I have several Benchmade knives, and all of them are great. So I decided to get a tactical pen. I got the pen, looks great, writes great. I have but one complaint. When you use it to write with you must lay the cap to the side. Unlike most pens with a cap, this one will not stay on butt end of pen. Honesty if I would have known that I wouldn't have purchased it.Update- Ok I was being too gentle with cap. Not that I had to slam it, but it is a positive lock when you put on opposite end to write with it. I love it now, great pen. Going to buy my wife one, when she makes up her mind what she wants. In mean time may slip me another benchmade knife in..

Nice! ^^
Excellent! Speedy delivery too. Very nice damascus pattern and it is heavier due to the metal body, similar to... in fact slightly heavier than the Gerber tactical pen i have. Would not recommend if you are going to take lecture notes with it but it does attract a lot of attention in the office or during meetings! ^^** (Only concern: I forgot to ask the seller to check for the pen's cap as it seems there are some play at the cap... but it is fine for me.)

Not quite the best product, not real Damascus
Not quite the best product, not real Damascus, its a look alike. Doesn't look good in person.Quality build though!

Love it!
I ordered this for my husbands birthday. I wasn't that familiar with the tactical pen so I had to do a lot of research. The value of this pen thru amazon was a substantial savings, I would order again from this supplier. They were prompt and I'm so happy with the product!
