Chock Full of Facts, Applications, and Common Sense
I've been running into the concept of "employee engagement" a lot lately. I decided to try Carbonara's book on the subject. Good choice! Highly readable, though it is dense with facts, examples, applications, checklists, theories. He ties together many current ideas and practices in the art and science of management and leadership. His passion and experience make it an easy sell for any supervisor who wants better results and an engaged team. I'd recommend this book to supervisors and business practitioners at any level of expertise.

Good Read
I am a performance consultant who purchased three books on the subject of Employee Engagement at the same time. The book provided good information, but was cumbersome to read at times. I particularly enjoyed the studies that were quoted and referenced in the book. The author also included good examples.

Good for beginners
This book is actually 5-star for people right out of undergrad or who have just become "accidental" managers. But there is nothing new here for a seasoned manager. The writing style IS interesting, though, and it's an easy read.

The Leadership Therapist's Smart and Intuitive Field Guide is a Hit!
They don't call Scott Carbonara "The Leadership Therapist" for nothing! His recent book release, or should I say prescription, published by McGraw-Hill, is truly the "Manager's Guide to Employee Engagement." I found this book to be a smart, edgy, and intuitive field guide for leaders at all levels. I've been familiar with Carbonara's work for sometime, but this is my favorite book of his to date. I love how he dives into the subject of employee engagement with clever terms, tools and examples we all need to start using, or at the very least, jag testing. Carbonara makes a great business case for the power of employee engagement when he explains to us things like: "Becoming the Best Boss Forever," "10 Activities to Increase Your Positive Thinking," "Engaging Others Through Social Service," and my favorite, his "Scientific Case for the Importance of Humor on the Job." I love Carbonara's no-nonsense, real-world, real-tools, tips and techniques style. He gets down to business, but in the process he keeps the reader thinking, shifting paradigms, laughing out loud, and ultimately doing something about the real issue of engaging people, building allegiance, fostering esprit de corps, and giving the workplace meaningful purpose from the heart. Get your copy. I've got mine...about six to give as gifts to all my manager friends!

DON'T DARE put it on a shelf with your "other" books!
This book is something that every manager/supervisor NEEDS! It deserves a spot on TOP of your desk not in your bookshelf. It has so much simple, beneficial information that you should have it out ALL the time as reference. Buy a new highlighter BEFORE you start to read the book because there is so much you can benefit from!Often people BECOME managers or supervisors because they perform well in a certain area or aspect, but have no "training" on how to supervise or lead. A great deal of experience lies between the pages of this book! Save yourself from the trouble of learning the life lessons that are already outlined in this book.I also appreciated the set up of the book with informative notes, quips and facts spread throughout it. It makes for a more interesting read and gives you time to absorb the information.Another well thought out book from Scott Carbonara!

Manager's Guide to Employee Engagement
After 21 years in the Army and another 22 years as a Senior Program Manager in the Defense Industry, I have a very special commitment to leadership and employee engagement. I have now transitioned to being self employed as a Project Management Consultant. Scott's book is right on target. He weaves information, anecdotes and story telling into a tapestry of wisdom on leadership. The book took a bit longer to read than I had anticipated because there were gems of wisdom that I wanted to make sure I incorporated into my practice immediately. I intend to use Scott's book to provide focus for clients when leadership is the issue. All leaders and managers want employees who produce because they want to not because they have to. That is the thrust of Scott's book. Thank you for sharing.

Must-have management resource
I manage an I.T. division of a university. Without formal management training, I rely on books like this to provide me with practical tools and strategies to get the most out of our employees. This book is among the most comprehensive and approachable resources I've found for managing employees. It covers tapping into employees' discretionary effort, getting to know them personally, and helping them align to the organization's values and mission. As an I.T. leader, we are sometimes tempted to think it's all about the 0s and 1s, but this book makes it easy for me to implement best practices and experience a happier and more productive culture. It's easy and engaging to read, while also being rich with material--from case studies, to stories, to very practical solutions I can implement and see results from immediately. I'll keep this book in my office library for years to come.

GET THIS BOOK!
I have to admit, when I first got this book, I thought it looked like every book out there - filled with alot of words that would put me to sleep in minutes on a subject that sounds a little boring. I was surprised to discover it wasn't boring at all and actually made the subject of engagement more exciting. If you are a manager or in a leadership role where you need to build engagement, this is a must have book. The other cool thing is if you have a question about something or need ideas for your company, you can actually contact the author and get a response from the author. Scott is a true example of engagement and how to make it possible in the workplace. Sam Glenn, Nation's #1 Recommended Speaker on Attitude
