The Ancient Egypt Guide (Interlink Guide)

The Best Guide
This is the absolutely the best and most thorough guide available to the monuments of ancient Egypt. It was originally written by the very respected Egyptologist William Murnane and updated by Egyptologist Aidan Dodson. However, even though this book was updated in 2012, it is already somewhat out of date. It should be updated again, especially after the new Grand Egyptian Museum opens and the changes are made to the Giza plateau.

One map is missing, just a scar.
It's just a pity that the map K (Luxor, East Bank) , supposedly on p.253, is actually missing. However, I strongly believe that this is the best guidebook to Ancient Egypt.

Dated in presentation and style.
There is a lot of good information, but the book is clearly dated in its presentation, graphics, and organization. The text is in long sections without much division, headings, etc. If you are going to use it while traveling you’d need to add tabs, notes, highlights, etc. The graphics are basic drawings mostly without any scale. After buying this, I found a Rough Guide to Egypt and found it much easier to use with most of the same information. That’s the one that will go with us to Egypt.

I have not read this book yet, but I just want to say right at the Outset That I would not have purchased this book if I had known that the font size was so small. Even with powerful reading glasses I found it difficult and a strain on my eyes to read.

THE Best Guide About Egypt
This book is an excellent guide for travellers, students, scholars and history buffs alike. I read Dr. Murnane's original text years ago and was impressed with his ability to put the reader on location at modern/ancient Karnak, Tanis, Luxor, etc. in a straightforward, easy to understand style.Aidan Dodson has gone one extraordinary step further in complementing Murnane's work with updated text, maps and photos. This is a "must read" for anyone interested in (or travelling to) Egypt on any level.

Thorough; readers will gain an enormous amount from this book and Aiden Dodson's revision. The layout though could be made a bit more user-friendly which accounts for 4 stars not 5, which the content merits.
