The cut is extremely neat and precise and the blades are super sharp. Because they are quite great, I'm actually making a real effort to take good care of them by not cutting anything bigger around than my thumb. So, 50% of my Japanese maple pruning with these and 50% with my Japanese pruning saw and virtually all of my shrub pruning. Keep in mind, the handles are not super long so with ornamental trees you'll need to be either really tall, use a ladder, or get longer handled loppers.
