Wildflowers of the Mountain West (Volume 1)

What's here is done very, very well
Was hoping this would be more comprehensive. For example, a few weeks ago I took about 15 unique northern Nevada wildflower pictures. 3 of them are in this guide. What's in the guide is done especially good, from what I can tell (not a botanist). The pictures are high quality and pertinent to highlight the main identifiable feature(s) of the flower. The 2006 Great Range wildflower guide has been out of print for a while and is overpriced in the aftermarket. From what I've read, the quality of the 2006 Great Range guide isn't close, but I only need the guide for flower identification. The Great Range guide supposedly focuses more on what's between the Sierra's and Rockies, the 'blind spot' I'm finding for a lot of these Western flower guides. Some have applauded the spiral binding, but I find the binding to be a weak point and can see the pages wearing over time. For flipping on a table this type of binding is ideal, but I'm never doing that. Not sure the reasoning behind this choice, I feel like the Falcon series guide bindings are plenty durable.

Excellent for ID'ing wildflowers
Very much enjoy having this handy book around. It's color coded so easy to look for a plant based on the color of its bloom. It's been a great addition to my plant books. Based in SE Idaho.

Easy to Navigate!
This book was great for my trip to Utah/Nevada! I like that it is organized by flower color, although sometimes you do have to flip around and check a few colors depending on what your plant looks like (eg. need to check for it in the purple and the pink sections). I was very satisfied with this book and look forward to using it again!

I know the author personally.
I love everything about the book. It has beautiful pictures of the wildflowers of the west and has important facts about the flowers, and where they are located in certain areas. I am giving one to each of my Grandchildren for Christmas.

great book
This is the best Rocky Mountain wildflower guide I have found. It has the flowers sorted by color, has great descriptions, and generally has 3 photos per flower - one of the whole plant, one of the flower up close and one of the leaves. Most guides do not have all 3 photos. Having these photos makes it so much easier to identify the flowers. The leaves are often the final identifying factor. If you live in UT, you will definitely love this book. BTW-It has a spiral binding, making it easy to look through. I wish I had found this book before I bought the others in my collection. This is by far the best one.

This is a fantastic guide for identifying wildflowers. Shows clear, detailed color pictures to help you identify plants. Well organized by color types, too, making it an easy to use guide! Love it!

Very good reference book
Heard about this on the KSL Greenhouse show and decided to give it a try. It is a good book. I keep while camping and riding ATV's. Love the color organization for a person like me who can at least tell you it's a yellow flower and search from there versus other books where you need to remember your junior high biology notes on what Genus it is first. Very well researched. Excellent pack along for local natives or people who are travelling through the region.
