Yup, the casting shattered for me too. First one was after 20 hours of engine run time, the 2nd after 1 hours of run time. This is for a 3gm30F.DEFECTIVE PRODUCT !! The 2nd time the casting shattered, I was using the starter under no compression to purge the fuel system. Starter seems okay if your motor starts in a few seconds. The starter fails if you run your starter for any longer, even under no compression. Looking for a solution that's better than the $415 new Yanmar. I wish I had kept the original starter to have it rebuilt.

Didn't fit, which was my fault. Ordered wrong size. Company refunded my money with no problem.

I ordered this starter for a Yanmar 3GMD. The casing shattered on the first one I ordered. I was foolish enough to order another another and it shattered as well. My third mechanic told me that Yanmar's don't like aftermarket starters so I bought an genuine Yanmar starter and all is well. Apparently, these are not a perfect fit. I was disappointed that Rareelectrical didn't return my first two phone calls and would not accept even a partial refund even though the starters are still good, but just need a new casing.

Dropped to one star as the casting cracked and left us stranded on the water. Maybe lasted at best 10 hours of engine run time.
