Junk -- Don't risk your CD/DVDs; spend a few more dollars
This is junk. I knew it was cheap, but figured it would at least work for a little bit. I'd prefer to return the item and give the seller the option to make it right, but my return window just passed. I didn't procrastinate to initiate a return; I just had no reason to use the device and discover what it's like until today. Why is it junk? Not because it feels cheap, not because it's made of cheap materials, it's because:- The USB cables take work to get into USB ports (with potential to damage the ports them selves)- Door doesn't quite close all the way by itself. The tray pushes all the way back in, but the door gets caught on the lip of red plastic and bends backwards. Every time.- MOST crucial: the second DVD I put into the drive was clearly scraping against something on the interior. Fortunately it was the top of the disk and not the bottom. REALLY glad it wasn't the bottom, as it was a disk with wedding photos that don't exist anywhere else yet.Never putting another disk into this drive.

It works great. It does everything I want it to do
I purchased this for the Alienware Alpha ASM100-1580(i3 base model). It works great. It does everything I want it to do. Purchased RED as it is easier to spot and stands out when you need use it. Would have given 5 stars if it only used a single USB port for both power and data. Not really a big deal, but it does require two USB ports for use.

This is not going to be your thrifty works great find
I read the reviews for this product, and thought I would try it out, as I am normally pretty good at finding a good deal on Amazon, and have had luck with other foreign electronics. I have a brand new Asus laptop, which does not have an internal DVD/CD Rom. This product works about 5% of the time, and will abruptly decide to stop working. I purchased the drive to run educational software to aid me in my classes. I have not had this problem with my new driver. In most instances, I would recommend going thrifty, and sometimes more economical products will get the job done at a fraction of the cost. This is not one of them. If you purchase this, you will be eating $10.00 and the time it takes to reorder a better brand or take a trip to the electronics store and buy a working driver. #thisoneisalemon

Requires using two cords (power and connector) though would love if one
Requires using two cords (power and connector) though would love if one. Pretty good but when using must have a sturdy and flat surface or there can be disc reading trouble. If those conditions are true then it has been reliable and great for our laptops that don't have the built-in DVD player.

You get what you pay for
Worked well at first although the construction is cheap, then intermittently after about 20 uses and not at all after about 30 uses. After about 3 weeks would not read disks any more. You get what you pay for. Spend a little more on something nicer.
