Colonel Ichabod Conk Styptic Pencil

It was as advertised.

Received the first one broken during shipping. Seller quickly replaced it with a new one wrapped more carefully, which arrived in good condition. I set the item next to my bathroom sink where I shave. It was brushed lightly and dropped 6 inches into the the sink (the cap was still on). I removed the lid and it had broken at the base. Nice idea to have a "chapstick" size styptic pencil, however the stick diameter (approx. 1/4 in.) is too small to have sufficient strength for anything but the most gentle use. Get something a bit bigger. I would suggest the manufacturer make a tapered stick so the base diameter is larger.

What can be wrong with a styptic pencil? Only that it arrived looking small in comparison with what was advertised. I'm sure it works fine though; wasn't so upset that i needed to use it to staunch a cut to my throat.

I bought this despite the poor reviews because I wanted the plastic case to store other styptic pencils in once it was used up. I fully expected it to break at the base, which it did, but it took longer than I expected to do that. He said it was his favorite one ever and used it all the time. I'm not sure if he took the advice to store it "white cap up" or not - I'm pretty sure it laid on its side most of the time. When it broke at the base, he kept using it anyway, and it promptly broke in half - it had become super soft and crumbly and he threw it away. So... while I expected it and it was a shame - while it lasted it was great, and now we have a nice case for storing other ones...

SMALL! Broke after one use. Thought it would be same size as clubman styptic pen.

These aren't bad little styptic pencils. I really like the size and the fact that they come in a closed tube to minimize breaking and mess. The first couple that I used broke off at the base about half way through. I realized that I had been storing them with the white handle down, which lets residual water run down the pencil and erode the base. The result is that they break off with any pressure.So, to prolong the life of these handy little things, rinse and blot them dry after use and store them with the white handle facing up.

The design on the tube arrived almost completely rubbed off.Also, the first time my fiance used it, it snapped in two!Looked cute, but it's a piece of crap. :/
