I really like Sasha Grey but this book is a disappointment.
I like Sasha Grey I think she is an incredible performance artist/actress but I was super disappointed in this book. The book is written like a freshman love stuck person with a thesaurus. The writing is poor at best and it's surprising to me. I've seen Sasha Grey speak and she is so intelligent and funny and quick witted and smart. This is why I was so surprised with the way this book was paced and written.

A really good read!!
This book is really good. I have always felt a special attraction for everything that Sasha does, but I didn’t know this part of her. Best of all, she is the one who reads the story in the audiobook and her voice is simply erotic. She is not Hemingway. Do not expect a masterpiece. It's not that kind of book. It's a book about our darkest fantasies, yes, ours, because we all have them. Sasha knows it, and writes about it. She is sensational.

Starts strong but fades
This erotic novel starts off strong but then doesn't go anywhere. A common failing of erotic writing is repetitiveness and this one is no exception. The first couple of chapters hold great promise, but the following pages contain a series of similar events described in a similar manner. Eventually one becomes tired of waiting for the payoff, long before the payoff comes. On the plus side, whereas most erotica reads as if it was written by a third grader, this works reads as if it were written by a high school student.

Good
The book is good and has great promise, but sadly it does not live up to what the summary promises. It felt at times the book did not have a clear direction with the plot and really over does it with the personal fantasies along with the philosophical portions. However, it worth the read and an good first attempt at writing from the author.

A bit of a disappointment
All I can say is: ho-hum. For what this book cost, I sure expected a good deal more.

I really like it, I will order the book 2&3
I hesitated to buy this book because of the average reviews here ... but I don't regret my purchase because I absolutely love it and read it in 2 days.I enjoy to enter in the world of Cathrine and her fantasies and how she has been introduced to the private circle that is The Juliette Society.

Better then a phonebook, worse then the bible
Sasha's book was a bit of a let down. I read it and thought the structure of the writing was rather 8th gradeish. The story was not at all what I had expected . I expected more erotic content knowing her past. The plot was a good idea, but got side lined by the bad writing. BUT... still a better book than anything I could have written. A+ for being brave enough for trying to this a book. C for the content. I still love your past work.

Quite an adventure
Not sure why I purchased this. I'd heard stories about the book. Delightfully, she tells a good story. There was one point where I think her editor should have helped a bit more, however, on the whole she is quite a good writer. I look forward to her next book.

Lots of sex, a little secret society and quite a bit of classic film
Based on what I had heard about The Juliette Society ahead of time, I'd expected a novel about a young woman getting introduced to secret society and an exploration of the that society, along with the occasional naughty scene. However, while that is the general plot of the book, Juliette Society is almost entirely focused on sex and sexual fantasies. Each chapter explores a new and different sexual fantasy with the plot of the novel acting as a thread to tie these adult scenes together. So I got something quite different from what I thought I was getting into. Still, I think The Juliette Society is an interesting read. The book discusses sex (lots of that), power, kink and examples of these topics in popular media, particularly movies. (Ms Grey must be quite the film buff.) And I think this novel explores what we consider normal with regards to sexuality and strives to take some of the stigma away from the conversation by having the main character think about (and experience) new aspects of sex and her own sexuality. This book contained less secret society and more sex than I had expected, but it did get me to think about what I consider normal and why and I think that made it a good and interesting read.
