From Fallingwater to the Guggenheim Museum, Frank Lloyd Wright created some of the most celebrated designs in history. But his development as an architect is best seen in the three homes he built for himself. Freed from the wishes and demands of any client, they are the purest expressions of the talents and theories of the greatest architect of the 20th century.America's Castles follows the evolution of Wright's style from the balanced simplicity of Oak Park (1891) to the destruction of the traditional boundaries between inside and outside space of Taliesin West (1937). Go inside Taliesin (1911) in Spring Green Wisconsin--off limits to the public--to see what many scholars feel is the most beautiful of all Wright's domestic designs. And learn of the turmoil and tragedy that marked Wright's private life--including the horrific axe murder in Taliesin!

If you've only seen still photographs, you're in for a treat
For someone who's never seen any of Frank Lloyd Wright's domestic architecture other than in books, this video is something of a revelation.Although the video mainly discusses the architect's life and how his philosophy of architecture may be seen in his own homes (the Oak Park house, near Chicago; Taliesin in Wisconsin and Taliesin West in Arizona), it's been an eye-opener for me to see the delicate quality of some of his leadlighting, the way the houses might 'feel' when you first enter them... and the wonderful sense of space he was able to achieve.Seeing this video has only increased my resolve to see the real houses... I just *know* that it will truly be awe-inspiring when I do.

Homes of Frank Lloyd Wright
I have been to the falling waters home in Pennsylvania and found it very beautiful.I enjoy looking at all the homes Frank built and saw four homes on one block in Milwaukee, WI being restored. I would love to live in one of his homes if I could afford it.

Vert good.
Bought for hubby who loves the Frank Lloyd Wright designs. Falling Waters is VERY unique - BUT, not a home for the avearage person. If you have studied Wright, you know he thought it wasted space to have large rooms anywhere except the living area and forget his kitchens! None of his kitchens are worthy of a good cook!

skims the surface
this tape is only for those with a very passing interest in wright's work. the ken burns version is FAR superior, giving us insight into his work through interviews with prominent architects (most notably phillip johnson), authors and critics.in burns' biography, the camera lingers on the houses allowing us to inhabit the space as much as possible. the music which was so important to wright is also present. period footage and photographs also add depth and context.the time spent examining wright's personal life (which some find distracting) is absolutely essential to understanding and fully appreciating his architecture. his life is an amazing story of tenacity, excess, vilification and vindication.if you are already a fan of wright, pass on this. it will show you nothing new.

Small print
A very well done documentary, as are all of the others in this series by A&E.Great photography and narration. Nothing beats seeing these houses in person but this is the next best thing.

Educational gift
Bought this video for my granddaughter who wanted the Robie House Lego set for Christmas. This video will show her how it fits into Wright's portfolio - she's 9.

... table book butit was a small version without the beautiful colored pictures
Ibthought I was buying the coffee table book butit was a small version without the beautiful colored pictures. Most pix were black and white . Packaging caused corners of the book to be bent. It was a gift for my sister's birthday. Otherwise I would have returned it. No sturdy box like Amazon uses.
