Charles Reid's Watercolour Secrets: An Intimate Look at the Discoveries from a Lifetime of Painting Paperback – August 31, 2007

There is more Purple in this book than in any of his previous books. That may deter some men from purchasing it, but women will not have an issue with it. Charles makes simple shapes very identifiable; especially Figures.

One star for product not content.First off, being an owner of the hardcover (landscape) edition I am very disappointed in the reprinting of this book. I had hoped for much more. The binding is that of a calendar -along the long edge. Most upsetting is the reproduction. Unlike a calendar, when you hold it up everything runs top to bottom. This item you have to turn the book upside down to read the following page. Not to mention most of the images have they're edges are cut off, some images are so bad that I can not make to the lines in his drawing.I had hoped for more. Someone scanned the pages and created a book of pdf's.An artist like Charles Reid deserves better, much better!

This is obviously a print-on-demand book. The content is fantastic, but the vendor clearly didn't pay attention to the book's layout. The binding belongs on the short edge, as it's layed out in 'landscape' format.But that's not what I got. I got a book bound on the long edge-essentially the top of each page was where the binding was attached. Makes for an awkward read, as the book has to constantly be flipped back and forth in order to read it.A quick trip to the FedEx express and the original biding was cut off and a spiral bind added to the correct edge makes the book 100% more usable.The content is great; just be aware that you'll have to essentially cough up another $10 or so to make it usable as an actual book!

NOT ENJOYABLE TO READ. MUST KEEP ROTATING THE BOOK TO READ EACH PAGE. HAVE NEVER SEEN A BOOK BOUND THIS WAY, IT IS JUST SO WRONG.

I cannot comment on the content yet because the print format chosen by the publisher is ludicrous. Why on earth would you choose to bind the long edge of the paperback version of a book that was originally bound on the short edge?! I will have to pull the whole thing apart and rebind it myself just to make it readable. I cannot believe they are charging $20 for this mess.

The book is a copy of pictures from Reid's sketchbooks with some incidental but useful comments. Reid's paintings are always good but these are more simplistic than those in his other books.

The media could not be loaded.  There are two editions for this book, a hardcover edition published in 2004 and the paperback edition in 2007. With David and Charles (DC) being the publisher.The format of the paperback edition (2007) is horrible. The pages are clearly laid out for a landscape format book but the book is printed in portrait format. You have to rotate the book for every single page you want to read. It gets tiring immediately.For some of the paintings that span two pages, they are cut off at the bottom of the left and right pages. In usual landscape format, they would have been printed across the gutter. This is ridiculous.The content is great. Charles Reid's style is loose and at times splashy, just like the one on the cover. There are useful tips and instructions on every page, some step by step tutorials and little exercises for you to experiment.Overall, because of the printing format, I won't recommend this book because it's just too frustrating to rotate the book every time.Content: 5 starsBook format: 1 star(There are more pictures of the book on my blog. This book is supposed to flip horizontally. The binding was made on the wrong side of the pages. This is incredible. I'd never seen this happen before. This is an art book. Check the pictures I attached, please. The watercolors are split in half and the first page is upside down. This is simply unacceptable! The make the exercises the book suggests we ha to rotate the book in the middle of a painting. It's absurd!

Turn,upside down, back around..ridiculous, it’s layout is not normal. Extremely poor paper quality. The cover is the nicest thing. The book looks like it would be great to have in original hardcover,which I just ordered for double price, worth it in this case, do not waste your money on this. One star is on too many.

Gute Einführung in die Welt der Aquarelle von Charles Reid, mit sehr interessanten Typs zur Technik und Gestaltung für Aquarellisten mit bereits vorhandenen Grundkenntnissen.

another inspiring book by the Charles Reid. We might all have our own individual styles inside us just waiting to be released, but who wouldn't like to be able to paint like CR; spontaneous, optimistic. Each image is a revelation.
