Product Description The Original Umbrella Stand is the ultimate portable umbrella stand made for sporting events, picnics, beach and backyard. Just step on the spiked platform and it slides easily into the ground. Add your umbrella and you have instant shade. The two positions mean you can easily adjust the umbrella or you can use two umbrellas for ultimate sun protection. The thumbscrews securely hold the umbrella so you won't have to worry about the wind carrying it away. When you're ready to leave just pull it up. Great for fishing poles and flags too.

Not too sturdy, but otherwise works.
It only sticks in the ground on one axis, which means if your ground isn't really firm, it will just fall over. I thought the ground we had was firm enough, but it wasn't. So be really sure you're sticking this deep in firm soil. Some people ask if it will work in sand, and some photos seem to show it will work. Trust me, that will not work. I would have bought a four-point version, but it has been sold out constantly and I needed this for a deadline event. I luckily was able to re-locate near a railing and tape it down to hold it. It wasn't even what anyone would call "windy" and it was just falling over so we did it for safety. As for the rest of it, the welds seemed sturdy, the wing nuts to hold things in place moved fine, and the 1.5" tube umbrella I used with it fit fine.

Love this thing
Love this thing. Solidly made, the stakes are long and keep it stable. Will actually hold a market umbrella, which gives 75% of the useful coverage of those gigantic pop up square canopy's people haul around -- especially since the umbrella with this stand can be so easily tilted for optimal shade much more easily than a square canopy. If there is a decent wind you might have to rotate the legs to orient along the path of the wind for stability, but in ordinary conditions you can set it up without paying attention to how it is oriented.

Excellent for sport moms
Second one I've ordered. I'd give it 5 stars for general use ... soccer games, little league, pop warner. Excellent use on grassy, hard dirt/compacted areas like ball fields. However for the beach I'd give it 3.5 - 4 stars. I wish the spikes were longer and the tubes to hold tumbrella longer/deeper as well. Works well when not much of a wind (low to low/moderate winds). Be sure to dig to where sand is solid and compacted, then set it and pile the sand back on. I've bought 2. Had my original for over 6 years & still works great & solid.

You won't have to buy a replacement for this one.
Oh yeah, this is class all the way. Made in Vietnam, but sturdy and unbreakable. Those spikes are 5.5" long and 3/8ths thick. They make some cool attachments to go into that slanted side like a little dining table with holes for cups.Instructions say to run the foot parallel with the wind direction, and that makes sense. You can put another umbrella in the slanted side and really get some shade going.I very much doubt this would hold in beach sand, but in a black clay yard like mine, I'll have to drive it in.

Simply does it's job, wish I had bought earlier.
Perfect stand for my 9ft umbrella. I bought it to provide shade over my kids sandbox throughout the day as our backyard doesn't have any trees and am worried about sunburns/cancer risk. It works perfect for that. I put it in the upright position for early am sun until about 2pm and then switch it to the angled position for late afternoon sun. Love the versatility. Also like that I can move it around for picnics in the backyard. I plan on taking it to the beach in a couple of weeks so I'll update my rating once I return to see how it holds up in the sand. In the backyard (rocky clay soil) it is sometimes hard to go into the ground with my heel due to the poor rocky soil, but goes in with a quick hammer.Word of caution, if using a hammer to put in poor soil take care not to strike the thumb screws that tighten the umbrella pole. I did that and bent it to where it wasn't able to screw in properly. I was able to bend it back to it's original position and with caution haven't made that mistake again. Would definitely buy again ,simple and works great.

So versatile
We are using these in the play yard of a preschool, with lightweight beach umbrellas. They are perfect for what we need as they are easy to position and move as we need to adjust the shaded areas during the day. The design with the ledges on each side of the pole slot allow you to use your feet to get sufficient pressure to press the stands into the dirt. Our family also has one that we take to soccer games in the summer to provide shade for sitting and watching.

Great stand, well crafted
This is the second one I've bought and may get a third. Very easy to change locations. I screw down the umbrella pole in the stand with the attached screws. To move, I pull stand plus umbrella. It's easier to steady it when stomping into the ground when the umbrella is attached. It goes in more level and true. Instructions mention aligning the stand with the wind direction. This is good advice.

If you dont want the sun beating you up then buy this
As a soccer dad this is probably my most valuable tool. The sun was scorching me and I needed this. The umbrella pole inserts and secures easily. The unit securely goes into the ground. I see the other parents struggling with their cork screw style mounts that screw into the ground. Those suck.. This is the one. Oh and the 2 options of vertical or angled pole mount is awesome!

Spike hit a woman in the head and made her bleed
Not good for even light wind. Maybe okay for still day with no wind. My umbrella and this stand blew free and the spike hit a woman in the head at my son's football game. She was bleeding from the scalp. I apologized profusely and was super embarrassed. The woman was gracious and understanding but her husband was not pleased. This stand has enough strength to keep the umbrella upright in the right soil, but it pulls out of the ground easily in even light wind.

Very handy and convenient to use! Would recommend!
Very handy to set up my umbrella anywhere in the yard. It is quite solid and does not tip easily. The reason I gave it 4/5 is because I wish the base was slightly more stable (maybe an X or cross?) and also the fit of the umbrella in the main tube is very tight and took me a while to get it in. Now I just leave it installed so I don't have to deal with that again. Overall I like the product and would recommend, but it wasn't quite perfect.

Very convenient
I was the envy of everyone at the soccer game. For weeks my grandson's team has been assigned where the sun rises right in front of us. This was very sturdy and the angle was perfect for blocking the sun and still be able to see the game.

Your umbrella will fall to the left or right if the wind blows
Falls over and doesn't hold an umbrella up. Complete waste of money. We ordered this to hold our umbrellas at soccer games. It sucks!

Blows over easily with a 9 ft umbrella
I have a 9 foot market umbrella, after reading the reviews I purchased this instead of the one with 4 spikes. Bad move on my part. This does not hold the umbrella even in the slightest wind. I even had it in our lawn, not sand. I wish I could get the other one. It is well made and sturdy, just not design to hold a bigger umbrella.

it's really for a patio umbrella and not a flag
I got this hoping I could use it for a flag holder but the flag would touch the ground, If you make the stake part low and add a little height to the pole holder it would be a great flag holder. Had to return

Perfect for soccer games! Pushes into the ground easily. Holds umbrella securely. Love this product. Would buy again and have recommended to other soccer parents.
