Kickass Book
This book has everything you need to breakdown different animal structures, and they're laid out in a way that makes sense. The table of contents also tells you about the specific unique animal structures to check out.

but it's a great guide and using the tips and tricks in the ...
I found the sections on simplifying anatomical structures and comparative anatomy the most helpful! Gary's anatomy breakdowns are clear and informative. They really help in learning landmarks on the animals and how to lay down the structure in your sketch to make it easier to draw poses and get the proportions right. A lot of the intimidating stuff about animal drawing is simplified and made less scary in these sections. You're not going to immediately become an animal drawing master just because you got the book, you need to put in the time and practice to get that skill, but it's a great guide and using the tips and tricks in the book will eventually get you there. I still have a long way to go, but I recently went through an old sketchbook and compared it to the animal drawings I'm doing now with what I've learned and I can definitely see improvement. It's a great field trip companion and I always have it in my travel bag to reference. My only suggestion would be a section on aquatic animals. I'm especially interested in seeing a breakdown of how to draw crustacean legs and making them look like they're planted on the ground.--Tobi K.

Gary knows his stuff...
I’ve practically been drawing since I came out the womb, and while I’m relatively well versed in sketching a variety of different subjects, animal drawing was not one of those. I’ve read a lot of “How to Draw” books, and this one is not your standard “Step 1, Step 2, Step 3.” ordeal, it dives much deeper into showing you how to wrap your head around drawing animals, from the break downs to providing reasoning behind why animals have certain features... Just having the ideology behind why you’re drawing what you’re drawing will make you a better artist, and the book thankfully provides that. Knowing how to draw this stuff depends on how hard you’re going to work at it, learning takes time and it’s not going to happen overnight, but you’re surely going to have a strong understanding from the get go, and will likely be refering to it for years to come.
