gave out in a few hours, i wouldnt buy one again

I got this to use at my work computer. If you're sick with the chills you probably wouldn't want this on since it is a cold mist but for general dryness or if you're a little hot this is awesome and it looks so neat like a little steam fountain in a cup. People can't help but stop by my desk and play with the cool steam.

I bought two of these not too long ago. Since them, I have received a replacement for one of them, and all three have been broken or malfunctioned. I have had to throw them away due to SEVERE electronic malfunctions. If it happened on one, I would understand. If it happens on three, it's a product issue.The auto shutdown ability that was advertised does not always work. It destroyed the cup I was using it in. The first time I tried to use one, the think outer shell started to come off like glue gone wet. Everything was peeling from it. I know it wasn't just an issue with the way I was using it because even the words "Made in China" peeled off. (It was the first replacement). Then, I used it overnight to attempt to curve my husband's nose bleeds in the dry Utah air. While it worked, this was the event where the auto shut down failed. After this, I didn't try the third one. I was worried about causing a fire or something.I would not buy this unless you can ensure direct and prompt supervision. It caused EVERYTHING in the vicinity to become moist. I have a new humidifier now, and I do not have the same issues with that one. I was scared to use the alarm clock for days until it dried out completely. And it is 100% INCOMPATIBLE with essential oils of ANY kind. I tried just a little bit of lavender, one that is mild and can be used in a lot of devices, and the outer casing started to wear down. I would expect this with lemongrass, but it was harsh!Find yourself something else. Something that is truly compatible with your needs. There are ones out there made to be used with essential oils (Cureoils.com has some nice ones on the cheap), and if you truly need it for the Humidifying effects, try one that will go over the head of a bottle. They are less likely to spill and they seem more effective. I personally don't have any to recommend, but I would DEFINITIVELY steer clear of this model.
