Bower SLY85S High-Speed Mid-Range 85mm f/1.4 Telephoto Lens for Sony

I got lucky and bought the last one on sale here on Amazon. This one is a keeper. The reviews said it was a great lens and I would agree. I also got it for under 175 dollars. It performs like 5 times more. My only gripes the lens hood design is confusing to screw on, it jumps from f1.4 to f2 you can't go in-between. Also it has a clickable aperture ring and focus distance is not to my liking, wish it was closer. Even with those gripes, I still give it 4 stars because it's an 85 1.4 and the focus for under 175 dollars. One last thing on the plus side; the focus ring is butter smooth

I'm a professional freelance videographer. My philosophy when it comes to gear is minimal, and bang for buck. Also, I'm a HUGE bokeh freak. And this lens blows me away. I absolutely love it. Performance/cost ratio is incredible. The lens is sharp, even wide open (at the center). Distortion is minimal. Fringing, coma, and chromatic aberations are significant wide open. However, when regarding aperture as an aesthetic, the etheral look this lens provides wide open is a gift. Also, the bokeh is gradient smooth, minimal edge interferrence. An absolutely incredible portrait lens. Plus the focus ring is smooth and dampened. I love it. Very easy to nail precise focus pulls. This lens being made of plastic is a non issue. Plastic is awesome. We won't be using lenses in 10 years anyway, so who cares?

This is a very nice lens. I bought it for use on my Panasonic AF-100 with a Nikon adapter.The lens is great for low light work as it steps down to f1.4 and focusing is accurate andhas a nice throw to it, so you can more accurately focus. The lens has a manual aperaturering which has very good tactile stops to it and is very smooth. Overall this is a quality lensthat is well worth the price.

Included literature indicates that this is a Samyang lens. Well made. Nicely damped manual focus ring. "A" setting makes it very easy to handle with Pentax DSLR's. Weight balances well with camera and feels good in the hand. Warm colors. Lovely bokeh. Sharp. Very sharp.Just learn to focus manually, and this lens becomes a portrait gem.

I received this in perfect working order, but I did not receive the correct lens. I ordered the Sony mount and received the Nikon instead. Luckily I own both a Sony and Nikon, so it did work out alright, just be aware that it's a crap shoot on these multi-format lenses.

This lens is amazing. The manual focus, like everyone says, takes some practice. At wide open apertures it can be pretty tricky to nail the focus but it is so worth it when you do. At f1.4 this lens is amazingly sharp and produces beautiful images. I would definitely buy this lens again!

I'm very sorry to say, granted it stated it was compatible to my camera, it wasn't. Due to the sensors on my camera to read the lense, Bower SLY85S did not have any.

It's a great lens for the money. The focus mechanism is very smooth and allows for precise adjustment. The CA seems to be fairly well controlled and so are field aberrations. Very good value.

Bought on sale for my Sony A99. Makes shooting in manual fun and enjoyable. Great portraits!
