This book provides great insight into Chinese herbal medicine and treatment strategies. Concepts presented are supported with cases. A "must-have" core resource in any practitioners library!

disappointment
This book gave me the distinct impression that veterinarians, too, have bought into the Wind-Cold-Damp metaphors that permeate TCM practice. When TCM vet herbal instructors can't explain how these herbs are scientifically working in our pets, and when they also can't assure that the ingredients are safe, I have to ask why vets are being taught and encouraged to sell these products.I question the wisdom of veterinarians recommending products whose real, pharmacologic activities they know little about, and especially if they think that they are treating a disease caused by "Stagnation" and "Deficiency" rather than a legitimate diagnosis.

dangerous
I use traditional chinese medicine(Kampo) for human patient as a pharmacist in Japan.Animal and mankind have different physiology. For example, ma huang(ephedra) is said to be a pungent-warm herb and stimulates sympathetic nervous system to sweat. This applies to human, but what happens if a dog takes this herb 1-3gwho can not sweat physiologically?(page 81) The authors seem to describe traditional chinese medicine simply for human andonly additionally calculate dosage to each species.I conclude this book to be dangerous to a practical usage.
