Great for teaching people (kids to adults) what they need to know about fishing. Logical sequence, excellent drawings, covers all fishing methods/how-tos, well-written & thorough. Can be read cover-to-cover or used as a reference guide. Contains information about practically every freshwater fish & how to catch them (baits/lures, rigs, feeding habits, etc.).Ordered this for my grandsons, aged 9 &11. I think I’ll buy a copy for myself and I’ve been fishing for about 50 years.

A great books for kids (and adults) who like to read and are new to fishing. Demonstrates techniques and introduces the gear and lingo. Nice illustrations.Keep it in the car for your child to read on the drive to your favorite fishing hole.

I bought three books on fishing for beginners, including, Bourne's Basic Fishing, and the For Dummies book; this one Fishing Basics by Kugach was the best. The book is mostly illustrations, but, still very informative, honestly.

Good book for a beginner, seem to be reading about fishing more than actually fishing though, can’t fault the book for this though!

I recently took up fishing after 20 years of avoiding the outdoors. I found that I really enjoyed fishing with my young son but I didn't know anything about what lures to use or how to tell where the fish were in the water. The chapters on where to fish and how to read structure are very helpful. The chapters on different fish and what lures they bite are also very helpful. Using the information on how to read the water and what lure to use, I selected a fishing spot and landed a bass within 5 minutes.

The main messages of this book are conveyed visually, providing an excellent resource for visual learners. That being said it jumps fairly quickly from the complete novice to improving your success; If you are just starting out, like I am, then there are missing chunks of information you will need to glean from another source.

I want to like this book. It is well laid out and explains things clearly. The illustrations appear to have been high quality however the print quality is low: the images are dark and grainy making many illustrations difficult to understand. I might still keep it but the low quality is very disappointing

Purchased this book to learn more on fishing basics. Have fished for over 50 years but there is always something I have found that may not have been passed down through the ages from father to son or daughter. This book explained in clear terms and pictures rigging and techniques that are useful and practical to the everyday fisherman. Have fished for trout but was not as familiar with bass and panfish. Found this text very helpful. Plan on keeping it around for my kids and grandkids.

I found a lot of this book was pitched towards the american angler and therefore unhelpful to me.Much of the blame for this is down to myself because the information was there in the original listing had I troubled myself to read it.

OK anglers, calm down, put the knives down. What I meant is, if you enjoy fishing then you probably enjoy the "old ways". This book is not recent. Rare I'm told. Teaches you a lot of stuff these new fish finding gizmos do for you. Tie your own....everything rather than buy that special angler tool shown on the fishing network.No pics, all drawings, and that's good in this case. Detailed drawings and explanations. It's with me every time I fish, now....right underneath my Bible.

Buy this book. Don’t worry. It goes through many ideas on rigs on what fish like and techniques to use. It is basically a collection of multiple ideas that various fisherman use to fish. I’m not sure if it offers advanced techniques but it’s a great summary. Love this book
