See Included Dirt Box Set-Up Guide For Complete InstructionsPerfect for beginner antkeepers, the Dirt Box combines a nesting area and a foraging area into a single enclosure. The Dirt Box allows your ants to create their own nest by digging tunnels and chambers so you can see the inner workings of a living ant colony with a queen (live ants are not included).Hydration: A standout feature of the Dirt Box is its unique hydration system. Water added through the top hole is stored in an inner container, soaking into a gypsum stone bottom layer before finally being absorbed into the dirt above. This one-of-a-kind system creates the perfect natural moisture gradient and reduces maintenance.Feeding, Hydration, Expansion: Easy-to-remove silicone plugs fit into strategically placed holes to allow for water and food to be added securely to the nest. Expansion holes on the side allow you to connect to another Dirt Box or foraging area using 5/16" ID vinyl tubing (not included).Escape Prevention & Ventilation: Stainless steel screen is 100% chew resistant and provides good ventilation to reduce the probability of condensation and mold growth. - - - - - - - - - -Choosing a Size:Dirt Boxes are available in different configurations to accommodate ants species or colonies of different sizes. SMALL boxes are suitable for small colonies, while LARGE boxes may contain much larger colonies.#mm indicates the width, in millimeters, of digging space for ants to dig tunnels. Larger ants will require at least #7 mm size, while smaller ants may use #4 mm or any of the larger sizes. Using the smallest size recommended for your ant species will allow for improved visibility of tunnels alongside the glass, while larger #mm sizes than recommended allow for larger possible colony size due to the increased digging volume.

Great Formicarium!
This product is a great formicarium for ant species that are on the small size for population. My small colony of Camponotus moved into it after one night of having it hooked up to their old enclosure and haven't looked back. The included instructions make setup super easy, and the vendor is super responsive to any questions that may arise. I highly recommend utilizing a small out world, some vinyl tubing, and the included 3D printed connectors for easy feeding and supplementary watering of your colony!

Definetly recommend
Great product for small starting colonies. The hydration is amazing. It keeps the soil evenly hydrated and maintains it. Also the soil it comes with doesn't collapse when I move it.

Great formicarium for small starter colonies
I have a small S. xyloni colony in mine and it works awesome, I expect they will need a larger one by the end of summer. Hydration is great and distributed evenly. Awesome product, I have already ordered additional units!

An amazing formicarium, my tetramorium love digging in it
An amazing formicarium, my tetramorium love digging in it. It is completely riddled with ant tunnels. Perfect size to make ants have to dig along the glass. Highly recommended.

DO NOT BUY THIS. BUY IT FROM AMAZON.COM FOR 1/4 THE PRICE
Edit: it's a neat formicarium, but this is for sale for 1/4 the price in the USA.It's very well constructed, and seems to hold hydration quite well.I think a larger "food drop" would be a better design, as the current hole is not large enough to fit a sugar-water container through.I'd give it 5 stars except that I think it's a bit overpriced. A Tar Heel Ants formicarium for a similar price is much larger, equal in high quality, and has conveniences that this design doesn't allow (such as direct access to the nest area).
