Leaked and then cracked after I tightend the outlet pipe enough to stop the leak
Leaks and cracks aside, this didn't work in my application. I intentionally undersized my irrigation well pump, as I intend to eventually only use it for a drip system. My immediate purpose for buying this regulator was to provide enough back pressure to prevent the jet pump from cavitating (and stop pumping) in a situation where the water flow is not adequately restricted (all hose bibs opened, with nothing connected to them). With the drip system, I will want to reduce the pressure as well, which this valve would have done, had it not cracked. However, at 15psi, I was only getting 4 GPM from a system that can produce 7 GPM. Even when I adjusted the pressure well past the point where this regulator accomplished my first purpose (back pressure), the flow rate was still restricted to about 4 GPM.I used pipe dope on the galvanized nipples used to connect to this regulator, but the connections still leaked. I had to really over-tighten the connections, which caused the housing to crack after about an hour's use. It also rendered the port for the pressure gauge on the output side useless, as the pipe threads covered the passage.I ended up using a gate valve salvaged from a demolition job to provide the needed restriction, while still maintaining the maximum possible rate of flow. I just removed the handle from the gate valve to prevent unintentional adjustments in the future.
