Turner's rise to prominence in Black higher science education is well worth reading about!
This is a memoir of a sharecropper's son who used his strong native intelligence and excellent networking capabilities to ultimately support the improvement of Black higher science education. Turner's rise from poor, post-slavery southern Maryland society to prominence as one of the most important Black science educators is nothing short of amazing. His thirst for education and his desire to share it is striking. Nickels has rescued this perhaps otherwise obscure memoir with her fine editing skills.
