Great tasting water again
So after buying filters from the name brand store, paying the high price and enduring the stupid change filter light that comes on oh so very quickly, I decided to try these. The price is great, two filters for the price of one. Yes, it is a smaller fit for the Original Equipment one, but I knew that before I bought it. My reason for not giving it Five Stars are two fold... One, when you get the filter you are supposed to soak it in water for fifteen minutes, I didn't own a pan big enough to fit it in, so off to the local hardware store where I purchased a plastic dishpan to soak the filter in. Okay, at least now I own a plastic dishpan! The second reason is that when installed and drained off two gallons of water, I then went to bed. Little did I know that there's a weep hole on the bottom of my filter housing and that since the silicone O-Ring requires some seating before it will seal, yeah you guessed it, filled my fridge with water. Bummer, but at least it gave me an excuse to clean the fridge. In summary, the water tastes great, good flow/pressure, but, buy an inexpensive dishpan for soaking filter and put a pan under the filter housing before you go to bed for the first night or two. Unless you need an excuse to clean your fridge!

I do not like being deceived
I have a Kenmore Elite. These filters aren't quite the same as the ones I've used before. They do leak some when put in initially. The water tasted different too. It took about 2 weeks before the ice and water tasted the way they did with the other filters. Even though it says for 9900, it is really different. It's not only smaller, but doesn't fit the area the same.I will NOT purchase these again for the main reason-- they don't fit tight and leak for a while. I'm with another review, why do they need to be soaked first. I never had to soak any filters in the past before using. The only thing that had to be done was run water for about 5 minutes through the dispenser to clear the filter.Next time I need to replace the filter I will purchase directly from Sears. It may cost a little bit more, but I will know that it will fit perfectly. The filters from Sears do NOT cost much more for 2 as these do. It is worth the price to make sure you have the proper filter. These may be the right one, but they don't seal well. The company should have stated somewhere that these were different than the usual filters. As consumers we should be informed of any differences so we can make the right choices. I do not like being deceived.

Fits Perfect in my Kenmore Elite 46-9990 - Just Double Check Your Model #
I just replaced my second filter, and they fit and work just fine in my Kenmore Elite model 46-9990. Before ordering, please make sure you double check the model number of your fridge to make sure this filter is compatible. If you follow the directions that come with the filter, you won't have any problems at all. Just place a towel on the shelf under the filter before removing...DON'T PANIC...a little water will come out...this is normal. Also water will come out of the old filter, so hold it upright and place it in your kitchen sink. Once the new filter is properly in place, run a couple of gallons of water through to get all the air out of the line. The box says to replace every 6 to 8 months, so that's what I try to do. The dummy light on my fridge has never come on to let me know to replace it, and that's probably cause we don't use that water as often as we should...probably due to lack of patience with how slow the water comes out! lol

Works as advertised
So far so good. The filter fit properly and does not leak. Water tastes fine, I have no complaints about this product.UPDATE - It's now been 5 months since I installed this water filter. Still no leaks and the water tastes great.7 people in my house and they drink a LOT of water through this filter and we make a LOT of ice. So far, I am very pleased with this product.UPDATE - 3/2/2015 Been almost 9 months with this filter. No leaks. Water still tastes great. Have not changed out the first (of two) filters yet, and from past experience with the the Kenmore brand, when the filter is "done", the water has a weird after-taste and this Swift Green filter is still going strong. I have 5 kids, they use the water dispenser everyday, all day. The older kids are track and soccer athletes so they are constantly filling their water bottles. Point is, this filter is getting a lot of use. This product is quality and I highly recommend it.

It's a great filter, for a lot less than Sears asks
I bought my Kenmore refrigerator a couple of years ago, and replaced the water filter by visiting Sears at least twice--at around $65 a shot. Then I got wise, began using Amazon to scout out my filter, and am much happier. The Green Filter seems to be working fine once broken in (*see below), and I haven't noticed any difference in taste from my old water.Of course, I take both brands at their word as to filtration effectiveness -- I can only tell that the taste is still delicious. I live near a little town named Mineral, and it's called that for a reason: besides gold, silver and lead, our soil is packed with a host of unpronounceable minerals. (To name a few: alamandine, bornite, chalcopyrite, copper, cuprite, gahnite, galena, hornblende, magnetite, pyrite, pyrrhotite, scheelite, sphalerite, sulphur, tremolite, and tourmaline)...all I need is salt and pepper.malachiteAnyway, I'm pleased to say that my savings of over 60 percent is fine by me.(*Breaking in requires running off at least two gallons of water before drinking)
